OBJECTIVE: To provide a brief, nontechnical introduction to individual growth curve modeling for the analysis of longitudinal data. Several applications of individual growth curve modeling for pediatric psychology research are discussed.
METHODS: To illustrate these applications, we analyze data from an ongoing pediatric psychology study of the possible impact of spina bifida on child and family development (N = 135). Three repeated observations, spaced by approximately 2 years, contributed to the analyses (M age at baseline = 8.84).

It has been reported that the lifetime prevalence of panic disorder in patients with pulmonary disease is higher than epidemiologic estimates of population prevalence. We evaluated the frequency of anxiety disorders in 86 subjects from the Outpatient Asthma Clinic. The "tween years" are often challenging for both the children experiencing this period of development and their families. Adding to this challenge could be the stress of a chronic illness. This compounded dilemma can alter the achievement of normal developmental milestones and disrupt quality of life. This article addresses the special challenges of children with chronic illness during the tween years and proposes a conceptual framework based on a stress/coping paradigm relating chronic illness, coping resources for adaptation, and quality of life for research and practice.

OBJECTIVE: The present study examined the joint role of cynical hostility and powerful others health locus of control expectancies in predicting regimen adherence in a sample of center hemodialysis patients.
