Leiomyosarcoma is a rare skin tumor, most common in white men in the fifth to eighth decades of life. Primary tumors are classified in dermal or subcutaneous, that differ by clinical and prognostic features. They may appear on any site of the body, but are rare on the face. Leiomyosarcoma (LMS) accounts for 7% of all smooth tissue sarcomas. The rarity of smooth muscle cells in the oral cavity makes LMS a rare tumor in this localization. Gastrointestinal (GI) leiomyomas are rare benign smooth muscle tumors, most commonly arising in the esophagus and stomach. Their occurrence in the colon is uncommon, and synchronous involvement of multiple colonic sites is exceedingly rare. Primary mediastinal sarcomas are extremely rare. Additionally, mediastinal leiomyosarcomas account for approximately 9% of mediastinal sarcoma cases. We assessed the autocrine motility factor receptor (AMFR/gp78) expression in thymoma. AMFR/gp78 antigen was identified in tumor cells in 16 out of 51 (31.4%) thymomas. The AMFR/gp78 expression was closely associated with the stage (I/II vs. III/IV, p<0.0001), pathological subtypes (epithelial vs. other types, p=0.0214), and enhanced expression of alpha-smooth-muscle actin within stroma (p<0. 0001). The clinical, light and ultrastructural features of three renal neoplasms demonstrating a sarcomatous appearance on light microscopic examination are reported.
