Digital disinformation presents a challenging problem for democracies worldwide, especially in times of crisis like the COVID-19 pandemic. In countries like Singapore, legislative efforts to quell fake news constitute relatively new and understudied contexts for understanding local information operations. This paper presents a social cybersecurity analysis of the 2020 Singaporean elections, which took place at the height of the pandemic and after the recent passage of an anti-fake news law. Harnessing a dataset of 240,000 tweets about the elections, we found that 26.99% of participating accoun

This study explores the evolutionary characteristics and driving factors of innovative cooperation networks in the field of carbon capture, utilization, and storage (CCUS) technology in China, laying a foundation for the governance of those networks. Taking the patents in the field of CCUS technology in China as the research object, this study analyzes the evolutionary characteristics of innovative cooperation networks based on social network theory. The exponential random graph model (ERGM) reveals the factors driving the evolution of innovative cooperation networks from three perspectives: e

Purpose: Racial disparities in preterm birth have been long recognized, but the social and biological mechanisms for these differences are unclear. Our analysis had three goals: (1) to determine the relation between race and other social risk factors and cervical structure; (2) to determine whether social factors mediate the relation between race and cervical structure; and (3) to determine whether racial disparities in preterm birth (PTB) are mediated through changes in cervical structure observed earlier in pregnancy. Materials and methods: Data from the Maternal Fetal Medicine Unit network

The synchronization phenomenon is one of the crucial collective behaviors of the brain network, with its abnormal patterns in the brain networks of individuals with mental disorders like attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) capturing the interest of researchers. ADHD is a prevalent disorder among children, which is linked to adverse outcomes such as impaired recognition of others' emotional facial expressions, leading to awkward social interactions. Despite numerous studies focusing on the synchronization analysis of brain networks in ADHD children while observing emotional facial e

BACKGROUND: Recovery-oriented approaches in forensic psychiatry increasingly emphasize the importance of social relationships. However, research and practice have primarily approached significant relationships through a family-caregiver lens leaving less knowledge about the broader range of relationships that may be meaningful to patients. Drawing on the concept of relatedness, this study explores how forensic psychiatric inpatients understand and negotiate their networks of significant relations during long-term admission.
METHODS: A qualitative study was conducted in two medium secure foren

BACKGROUND: Play fighting is a prominent social behavior in juvenile rats and is widely used to assess social motivation, affect, and neurobiological function. Traditional dyadic paradigms quantify how much play occurs and how it is expressed but provide limited insight into how rats select play partners.
NEW METHOD: We synthesize evidence from group-based paradigms that allow animals to choose among multiple partners and highlight analytical approaches-including social network analysis and machine-learning-based tracking-that enable quantification of partner selection and group dynamics.

Measuring the phase synchronization between different brain regions in functional brain networks is a common approach to investigate many psychological disorders such as Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). The emotional processing deficit in ADHD children is one of the main obstacles in their social interactions. In this study, the nonlinear Correlation between Probability of Recurrences (CPR) method is used for the first time to construct functional brain networks of 22 boys with ADHD and 22 healthy ones during watching four visual-emotional stimuli types. Topological features of

BACKGROUND: Social media networks provide an abundance of diverse information that can be leveraged for data-driven applications across various social and physical sciences. One opportunity to utilize such data exists in the public health domain, where data collection is often constrained by organizational funding and limited user adoption. Furthermore, the efficacy of health interventions is often based on self-reported data, which are not always reliable. Health-promotion strategies for communities facing multiple vulnerabilities, such as men who have sex with men, can benefit from an automa

Current literature often links contentious protests with media hostility, showing that news outlets typically portray protests involving disruption or violence in a negative light. Contesting this literature, this work introduces an intersectional approach-focusing on geopolitics, protest goals and actions-to theorize divergences in the media framing of protests that entail violence. To illustrate these divergences, we use mixed methods-network analysis and content analysis-to examine an original dataset on U.S. media coverage of three large movements in different countries. These movements sh

Social anxiety disorder (SAD) is one of the most frequent anxiety disorders. The landmark meta-analysis of functional neuroimaging studies by Etkin and Wager (2007) revealed primarily the typical fear circuit as overactive in SAD. Since then, new methodological developments such as functional connectivity and more standardized structural analyses of grey and white matter have been developed. We provide a comprehensive update and a meta-analysis of neuroimaging studies in SAD since 2007 and present a new model of the neurobiology of SAD. We confirmed the hyperactivation of the fear circuit (amy

BACKGROUND: Functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) resting-state studies show generalized social anxiety disorder (gSAD) is associated with disturbances in networks involved in emotion regulation, emotion processing, and perceptual functions, suggesting a network framework is integral to elucidating the pathophysiology of gSAD. However, fMRI does not measure the fast dynamic interconnections of functional networks. Therefore, we examined whole-brain functional connectomics with electroencephalogram (EEG) during resting-state.
METHODS: Resting-state EEG data was recorded for 32 patients

How does the brain allow us to interact with others? Social neuroscience has already provided some answers to these questions but has tended to treat high-level, cognitive interpretations of social behavior separately from the sensorimotor mechanisms upon which they rely. The goal here is to identify the underlying neural processes and mechanisms linking sensorimotor coordination and intention attribution. We combine the human dynamic clamp, a novel paradigm for studyingrealistic social behavior, with high-resolution electroencephalography. The collection of humanness and intention attribution

INTRODUCTION: E-cigarette use among middle and high school youth increased from 2. 5 million in 2014 to 9.2 million in 2019, becoming the most common tobacco product used among youth. Hispanic youth, the largest ethnic minority in the United States, have higher rates of tobacco use, including e-cigarettes, than non-Hispanics. Identifying factors that put youth at risk for future e-cigarette use is vital to focusing prevention efforts. Informed by social cognitive theory, this study identifies predictors of e-cigarette uptake among e-cigarette naïve youth in a predominantly low-income Hispanic

BACKGROUND: Breast cancer-related lymphedema (BCRL) and its associated symptoms harm the quality of life (QoL) of cancer survivors and can stimulate fear of cancer recurrence (FCR). Self-management education for lymphedema has been introduced as an effective method in controlling FCR. This study investigates the effect of lymphedema group-based education compared to the social network-based and control group on QoL and FCR in breast cancer patients.
METHODS: This three-arm clinical trial studied 105 patients with breast cancer-related lymphedema referred to Seyed_Khandan rehabilitation center

INTRODUCTION: Some people with HIV (PWH) experience brain changes that affect neurocognition, but little is known about how HIV impacts social cognition or related brain regions. Social cognition, the ability to perceive, understand and respond to social information, is important for maintaining relationships and quality of life. This article provides the protocol for the first comprehensive study examining social brain function in PWH and people without HIV (PWoH). With three aims, this study will: (1) examine neural circuits related to social cognition; (2) examine social cognitive performan

Social emotions require the correct integration of emotional, cognitive, and social processes and are critical for complex social interactions. Adolescent criminal offenders (AOs) show abnormalities in the experience of basic emotions. However, most research has focused solely on basic emotions, neglecting complex social emotions that could be critical for social reintegration. The purpose of this study was to investigate the behavioral and neural correlates of social emotions (envy and Schadenfreude) in AOs. We explored the experience of complex social emotions, as well as their anatomical co

Depressive disorder is a prevalent mental illness that exhibits distinct symptom profiles across life stages. This study examined age-related differences in core psychopathological symptoms and network structures among individuals with depressive disorders, using the Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory-2 (MMPI-2). A total of 524 patients aged 18-65 years were stratified into four age groups: late adolescence (18-25), early adulthood (26-35), mid-adulthood (36-50), and late mid-adulthood (51-65). Generalized linear modeling was used to assess group differences in MMPI-2 scales, and netw
