Pentacenequinone-Modulated 2D GdSn-PQ Nanosheets as a Fluorescent Probe for the Detection of Enrofloxacin in Biological and Environmental Samples.

The fate and effects of fluoroquinolone antibacterial (FQ) on the environment are important since there appears to be a surge in FQ resistance like enrofloxacin (ENR) in both environmental and clinical organisms. Numerous reports indicate that the sensing capabilities of these antibiotics need to be improved. Here, we have investigated the interaction of ENR with our synthesized pentacenequinone-modulated gadolinium-tin (GdSn-PQ) nanosheets and the formation of intermolecular interactions that caused the occurrence of aggregation-induced emission enhancement. The concept for designing hybrid m

A novel mitochondrial-targeted fluorescent probe for ratiometric imaging of nitric oxide in cells and zebrafish.

Nitric oxide (NO) is a key signaling molecule that regulates energy metabolism, apoptosis, and antioxidant balance within mitochondria. It is closely associated with the development of cardiovascular diseases, neurodegenerative diseases, and cancer. Therefore, developing fluorescent probes capable of accurately detecting NO levels in mitochondria is essential for understanding disease mechanisms and clinical diagnostics. In this study, we developed a novel fluorescent probe based on the isophorone fluorophore. This probe achieves high sensitivity and specific ratiometric detection of NO in mit

Rationally design a novel Zn-MOF for fluorescent detection of nitrofuran antibiotics: The synthesis, structure and sensing applications.

Nitrofuran antibiotics (NFAs) residues in waterare a persistent concern for the public due to the potential threats they pose to human health and the environment. Therefore, efficient probes that are capable of detecting trace amounts of antibiotics in real water environments have become a top priority. Herein, a novel fluorescent Zn-MOF probe (MOF-1) was revealed for the highly selective and sensitive sensing of NFAs. MOF-1 was rationally constructed with Zn(NO3)2·6H2O, 5,5'-(anthracene-9,10-diyl) diisophthalic acid (H4ADIP) and 1,3-bis(imidazol-1-ylmethyl)-benzene (mbib) by using the solvoth

Rapidly responsive and highly selective NIR fluorescent probe for detecting hydrogen sulfide in food samples and living cells.

Hydrogen sulfide (H2S) is a pungent gas that is one of the key mediators of signal transduction in biological systems, and its presence is related to the freshness of some protein foods. Using phenothiazine derivatives as fluorophores and 2, 4-dinitrobenzene sulfonate (DNBS) fragments as reaction groups, a near-infrared (NIR) probe WX-HS for H2S identification was designed. With the addition of H2S, WX-HS appeared a strong fluorescence signal at 660 nm with short reaction time (90 s) and high sensitivity, and fluorescence state change from non-fluorescent to orange-red. In addition, WX-HS coul

Synthesis of a fluorescent probe based on rhodol's highly selective recognition of H2S and its application in cells.

A new fluorescent probe for detecting hydrogen sulfide (H2S) was developed through the thiolation reaction of 2-chloro-1,4-naphthoquinone. Rhodol was employed as the fluorophore, while 2-chloro-1,4-naphthoquinone acted as the reactive group for H2S. The probe remains non-fluorescent under sunlight but emits a strong fluorescence upon reaction with H2S, accompanied by a visible color change in the solution. This selective H2S probe features rapid detection (under 1 minute), high photostability, and a very low detection limit (LOD = 44.3 nM), well below the levels that trigger physiological resp

A selenium-based fluorescent sensor for the reversible detection of ClO- and H2S in foods.

HClO/ClO- and H2S are two kinds of momentous biological small molecules in the organism, and the redox balance between them is considerable for the physiological and pathological properties of organisms. Hence, it is very crucial to monitor the redox course between HClO and H2S. Herein, a reversible fluorescent sensor (IPSe) for ClO- and H2S was firstly constructed with the selenium atom as the response site and the dicyanoisophorone as the fluorophore. The sensor IPSe could detect ClO- with good selectivity and sensitivity due to the oxidation reaction of the selenium atom triggered by ClO-.

Pyrene-Based "Turn-On" Fluorescent Polymeric Probe with Thioacetal Units in the Main Chain for Mercury(II) Detection in Aqueous Solutions and Living Cells.

A water-soluble polymeric pyrene-based polythioacetal (PTA-Py) with thioacetal units in the main chain is simply synthesized by direct polycondensation of 3, 6-dioxa-1, 8-octanedithiol, 1-pyrene formaldehyde, and mPEG2k-SH. The probe PTA-Py shows a good fluorescence response to Hg2+ ions due to the Hg2+-promoted deprotection reaction of thioacetal groups to regenerate the original 1-pyrene formaldehyde compound. After adding Hg2+ to the PTA-Py solution, the fluorescence intensity (FI) gradually increases with increasing concentrations of Hg2+. Compared with other metal ions, the probe exhibits

A highly sensitive fluorescent probe based on functionalised ionic liquids for timely detection of trace Hg2+ and CH3Hg+ in food.

A novel fluorescent probe was fabricated using fluorescein-based ionic liquids (ILs) to effectively achieve rapid and accurate detection of Hg2+ and CH3Hg+ in food. A probe developed by addition of modified fluorescein into the functionalised ILs presented a promising sensitivity toward Hg2+ and CH3Hg+ at concentrations of 0.4 and 60 nM, respectively. In addition, the novel probe could achieve visual and timely detection of Hg2+ and CH3Hg+ by the naked eyes at concentrations of 0.1 and 1 μM, respectively. The probe could also overcome the interference of potential ions and common organic ligan

Observing hydrogen sulfide in the endoplasmic reticulum of cancer cells and zebrafish by using an activity-based fluorescent probe.

A crucial endogenous signaling chemical, hydrogen sulfide, is involved in many physiological actions. In this work, we created the fluorescent probe ER-Nap-NBD using a naphthalimide fluorophore as the signal reporter, a 7-nitro-1,2,3-benzoxadiazole amine as the responsive moiety, and a sulfonamide part for endoplasmic reticulum targeting. ER-Nap-NBD could be detected the H2S levels in solution and in living systems (cells and zebrafish).

Synthesis and applications of a corrole-based dual-responsive fluorescent probe for separate detection of hydrazine and hydrogen sulfide.

Here, a corrole-based dual-responsive fluorescent probe DPC-DNBS was rationally designed and synthesized for the separate detection of hydrazine (N2H4) and hydrogen sulfide (H2S) with high selectivity and sensitivity. The probe DPC-DNBS is intrinsically none fluorescent due to PET effect, however, addition of increasing amount of N2H4 or H2S to DPC-DNBS turned on an excellent NIR fluorescence centered at 652 nm and thereby provided a colorimetric signaling behavior. The sensing mechanism was verified by HRMS, 1H NMR and the DFT calculations. Common metal ions and anions do not interfere with t

A simple paper-based nickel nanocluster-europium mixed ratio fluorescent probe for rapid visual sensing of tetracyclines.

In this work, a ratiometric fluorometric sensor based on nickel nanoclusters (NiNCs)-europium complex (NiNCs-Eu3+) was constructed for the highly selectivity detection of tetracyclines (TCs) in water samples. In the presence of TCs, the blue fluorescence of the sensor NiNCs-Eu3+ was quenched at 430 nm and the characteristic red fluorescence of Eu3+-TCs appeared at 620 nm because of the combined help of inner filter effect (IFE) and antenna effect. Under the optimized conditions (100 mM Eu3+ (100 µL); temperature (25℃); reaction time (10 min), HEPES buffer solution (pH = 7.0)), the sensor offer

Fluorescence determination of the total amount of tetracyclines by a flavonol-based supramolecular sensor.

Tetracyclines (TCs) are a group of broad-spectrum antibiotics against multiplying microorganisms yet with several adverse effects on humans. Since all types of TCs have the similar chemical skeleton and mechanism of action, quantification of total amount of TCs in the environment was of particular importance. To date, dozens of fluorescent probes have been reported for TCs detection, but only very few of them enabled detection of total TCs. In this study, we report a novel supramolecular sensor constructed by human serum albumin as the recognition moiety and a flavonol fluorophore as the indic

Zinc-doped carbon quantum dots-based ratiometric fluorescence probe for rapid, specific, and visual determination of tetracycline hydrochloride.

In this work, a rapid, specific, and visual ratiometric fluorescence probe was constructed for tetracycline hydrochloride (TCH) determination based on zinc-doped carbon quantum dots (Zn-CDs). In the presence of TCH, the blue fluorescence at 440 nm originating from Zn-CDs was quenched, and the green fluorescence at 515 nm stemming from TCH was enhanced. The inner filter effect (IFE) and the chelation between Zn and tetracycline are the main mechanisms for the conversion of spectra. The spectrum and color change completed and stabilized within 1 min, indicating the possibility of real-time detec

Histamine Recognition by Carbon Dots from Plastic Waste and Development of Cellular Imaging: Experimental and Theoretical Studies.

The present work highlights the sustainable approach for the transformation of plastic waste into fluorescent carbon dots (CDs) through carbonization and then they were functionalized with L-cysteine and o-phenylenediamine. CDs which were characterized by different analytical techniques such as X-ray diffraction (XRD), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), Scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) are employed to recognize Cu2+, Fe2+, and Hg2+ ions. The results show that the fluorescence emission was considerably quenched, and it is consistent with the interfer

Bioimaging and detecting endogenous and exogenous cyanide in foods, living cells and mice based on a turn-on mitochondria-targeted fluorescent probe.

A novel fluorescent probe, with advanced features including "turn-on" fluorescence response, high sensitivity, good compatibility, and mitochondria-targeting function, has been synthesized based on structural design for detecting and visualizing cyanide in foods and biological systems. An electron-donating triphenylamine group (TPA) was employed as the fluorescent and an electron-accepting 4-methyl-N-methyl-pyridinium iodide (Py) moiety was used as a mitochondria-targeted localization unit, which formed intramolecular charge transfer (ICT) system. The "turn-on" fluorescence response of the pro

Sensitively detecting endogenous homocysteine in human serum and cardiomyocytes with a specific fluorescent probe.

The elevated level of homocysteine (Hcy) in circulating blood is generally regarded as a risk factor for a variety of diseases including acute myocardial infarction (AMI), but there is no clear answer to whether circulating Hcy can be used for AMI diagnosis. To address it, here we have designed a tetraazacycle-based fluorescent probe for sensitive detection of endogenous Hcy in AMI patients' serum and cardiomyocytes, showing a perfect selectivity over other biothiols (e.g. Cys and GSH). It mainly relies on the formation of a stable six-membered ring structure when this probe responds to Hcy, w
