Construction and Computation of the College English Teaching Path in the Artificial Intelligence Teaching Environment.

Источник пометил публикацию как отозванную

Today, English is the world's main international language and is widely spoken. In this context, the learning of English has long been valued by all countries. In addition, English plays an essential role in the process of economic globalization, specifically in the majority of countries where English is not the native language. At the same time, as China's integration into the world grows, the importance of English has become more pronounced, and the demand for English language skills has increased. At present, China's ever-expanding opening to the outside world, its developing science and te

Prosthetic Lip with the Retentive Attachment for a Unilateral Cleft Lip Patient: A Clinical Report.

Patients afflicted with congenital cleft lip defect experience disfigured facial esthetics and lack of oral competency that could reduce the speech intelligibility. Rehabilitation of such cosmetic deformities condition often encountered with dental abnormalities becomes the challenge. When surgical treatment is not desired, prosthetic reconstruction turns out to be an economical option. This clinical treatment describes the fabrication of a maxillary lip prosthesis supported by a cast partial denture retained with magnetic attachment in a cleft lip patient. The use of intraoral magnets placed …

Implant-supported obturator overdenture for extensive maxillary resection patient: a clinical report.

This clinical report presents an implant-retained obturator overdenture solution for a Prosthodontic Diagnostic Index Class IV maxillectomy patient with a large oronasal communication and severe facial asymmetry, loss of upper lip and midfacial support, severe impairment of mastication, deglutition, phonetics, and speech intelligibility. Due to insufficient bone support to provide satisfactory zygomaticus implant anchorage, conventional implants were placed in the body of the left zygomatic arch and in the right maxillary tuberosity. Using a modified impression technique, a cobalt-chromium all…

A glimpsing model of speech perception in noise.

Do listeners process noisy speech by taking advantage of "glimpses"-spectrotemporal regions in which the target signal is least affected by the background? This study used an automatic speech recognition system, adapted for use with partially specified inputs, to identify consonants in noise. Twelve masking conditions were chosen to create a range of glimpse sizes. Several different glimpsing models were employed, differing in the local signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) used for detection, the minimum glimpse size, and the use of information in the masked regions. Recognition results were compared w

[Hearing impairment in quietude and noise; 2 different forms of expression of presbyacusis].

Many elderly persons have problems in understanding speech in the presence of voice babble, music, etc. Fitting a hearing aid often does not improve their speech intelligibility. For a better insight, we should distinguish between two different modes of presbyacusis. The first mode expresses itself in attenuation of all incoming sounds, which can be compensated successfully by the hearing-aid's electronic amplification. The second mode has to do with a reduced capacity of the ear to separate simultaneous sounds. As the hearing aid amplifies both the wanted and the unwanted sounds, its effect i…

The effect of a hearing aid on the speech-reception threshold of hearing-impaired listeners in quiet and in noise.

The monaural free-field speech-reception threshold (SRT) without and with a hearing aid was investigated for conversational sentences presen … ut and with a hearing aid. The data illustrate that, generally, current hearing aids do not improve speech intelligibility in noise beyond, roughly, 60 dBA.

Preliminary Reliability and Validity of Asynchronous Speech Screening to Support Clinical Triage for Children With Cleft Palate and Velopharyngeal Dysfunction.

PURPOSE: Children with cleft and craniofacial conditions require ongoing monitoring and evaluation to manage persistent speech and resonance disorders. Regular assessment allows clinicians to detect emerging problems, evaluate intervention efficacy, and adjust treatment plans accordingly. However, socioeconomic and logistical barriers place many children at risk for sporadic or absent follow-up, leading to undiagnosed or underaddressed velopharyngeal dysfunction. This pilot study examined the reliability and use of asynchronous speech and resonance screenings to identify children who need comp

Novel esophageal speech therapy method in total laryngectomized patients: biofeedback by intraesophageal impedance.

The loss of the best communication port after total laryngectomy surgery makes speech rehabilitation an important goal. Our aim was to improve the quality of esophageal speech (ES) using online esophageal multichannel intra-luminal impedance (MII) as a new biofeedback method. Twenty-six total laryngectomized patients were included. Before ES therapy, an esophageal motility test was carried out. MII catheters were placed in all subjects who were then randomized into two groups. Group 1 included 13 cases, who were retrained according to the classical method. Group 2 included 13 cases, who were r

Speech and Deep Brain Stimulation in Parkinson's Disease, Essential Tremor, and Dystonia: A Systematic Review and Meta-analysis.

Deep brain stimulation (DBS) effectively treats motor symptoms in movement disorders but often compromises speech through incompletely defined mechanisms. We conducted a PROSPERO-registered systematic review and meta-analysis of publications through August 2024 (CRD42024527738). Among 2726 screened records, we included 184 studies: 131 in Parkinson's disease (PD), 32 in essential tremor (ET), and 21 in dystonia, assessing perceptual, acoustic, and patient-reported speech outcomes. Meta-analyses showed that subthalamic nucleus DBS in PD resulted in poorer speech intelligibility compared with be…

A longitudinal assessment of early childhood education with integrated speech therapy for children with significant language impairment in Germany.

BACKGROUND: In Lower Saxony, Germany, pre-school children with language- and speech-deficits have the opportunity to access kindergartens with integrated language-/speech therapy prior to attending primary school, both regular or with integrated speech therapy. It is unknown whether these early childhood education treatments are helpful and effective. AIMS: To determine the value of early language-/speech therapy treatment in combination with support of personality traits during the pre-school and primary school period on the long-term social and academic development of children with signific

Melodic intonation therapy paired with video feedback: A potential method for bolstering production?

Melodic intonation therapy (MIT) is a behavioural speech-language intervention that uses pitch and rhythm (i.e. melody) to increase speech fluency and facilitate improved word retrieval. It is a well-known therapeutic option for individuals with non-fluent aphasia. Though MIT can enhance speech and language production, its clinical utility is limited when those engaged in MIT are unable to routinely use its facilitatory techniques independently. Video feedback is a tool that can enhance learning and has shown potential as a mechanism to bolster behavioural interventions. The present study aime

Factors Predictive of Binaural Hearing Restoration by Cochlear Implant in Single-Sided Deafness.

INTRODUCTION: Cochlear implants (CIs) can restore binaural hearing in cases of single-sided deafness (SSD). However, studies with a high level of evidence in support of this phenomenon are lacking. The aim of this study is to analyze the effectiveness of CIs using several spatialized speech-in-noise tests and to identify potential predictors of successful surgery. METHODS: Ten cases underwent standard CI surgery (MEDEL-Flex24). The speech-in-noise test was used in three different spatial configurations. The noise was presented from the front (N0), toward the CI (NCI), and toward the ear (Near

Cochlear Implantation in Single-Sided Deafness and Asymmetric Hearing Loss: 12 Months Follow-up Results of a European Multicenter Evaluation.

People with single-sided deafness (SSD) or asymmetric hearing loss (AHL) have particular difficulty understanding speech in noisy listening situations and in sound localization. The objective of this multicenter study is to evaluate the effect of a cochlear implant (CI) in adults with single-sided deafness (SSD) or asymmetric hearing loss (AHL), particularly regarding sound localization and speech intelligibility with additional interest in electric-acoustic pitch matching. A prospective longitudinal study at 7 European tertiary referral centers was conducted including 19 SSD and 16 AHL subjec…

Markerless Analysis of Articulatory Movements in Patients With Parkinson's Disease.

OBJECTIVES: A large percentage of patients with Parkinson's disease have hypokinetic dysarthria, exhibiting reduced peak velocities of jaw and lips during speech. This limitation implies a reduction of speech intelligibility for such patients. This work aims at testing a cost-effective markerless approach for assessing kinematic parameters of hypokinetic dysarthria. STUDY DESIGN: Kinematic parameters of the lips are calculated during a syllable repetition task from 14 Parkinsonian patients and 14 age-matched control subjects. METHODS: Combining color and depth frames provided by a depth sens…
