Harm reduction through housing first: an assessment of the Emergency Warming Centre in Inuvik, Canada.

BACKGROUND: This research examines the effectiveness of an Emergency Warming Centre (EWC) in Inuvik, Canada, at reducing rates of morbidity and mortality for homeless persons with concurrent disorders (mental health problems and addictions). Inuvik is a small town of approximately 3500 residents, with over 65% being Aboriginal. The town is situated on the Beaufort Delta in the Western Canadian Arctic and is subject to oil and gas extraction-based boom and bust economic cycles. The centre provided food and accommodation for those under the influence of alcohol or drugs who had no other place to

Collaboration and involvement of persons with lived experience in planning Canada's At Home/Chez Soi project.

Planning the implementation of evidence-based mental health services entails commitment to both rigour and community relevance, which entails navigating the challenges of collaboration between professionals and community members in a planning environment which is neither 'top-down' nor 'bottom-up'. This research focused on collaboration among different stakeholders (e.g. researchers, service-providers, persons with lived experience [PWLE]) at five project sites across Canada in the planning of At Home/Chez Soi, a Housing First initiative for homeless people with mental health problems. The res

Research Utilization: A Cross-Sectional Survey of the Barriers and Facilitators Among Clinical Nurses in Ghana.

BACKGROUND AND AIMS: The involvement of clinical nurses in the utilization of nursing research in practice has been reported to be minimal. Globally, several studies have reported a host of challenges that hinder the efforts of nurses to use research in practice. However, other facilitators to nursing research exist. This study sought to assess the barriers and facilitators to the utilization of nursing research among Ghanaian nurses in practice. METHODS: A cross-sectional survey was conducted among clinical nurses working at a tertiary health facility in northern Ghana. A total of 330 partic

Co-production in mental health care, research, and education: A scoping review of barriers and facilitators.

Co-production, a collaborative approach where stakeholders or end users work as equal partners with professionals to design, deliver, and evaluate services or outcomes, is widely adopted in mental health research to promote more effective and inclusive service design. While often used interchangeably with terms like 'co-design' and 'co-creation,' these words actually denote collaborative practice, civic engagement, community involvement, and participation. This scoping review synthesises current research on the barriers and facilitators to applying a co-production approach in mental health, wi

Philippine Clinical Practice Guidelines for Periodic Health Examination: Screening for Musculoskeletal Disorders.

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE: Musculoskeletal diseases (MSDs) are acutely or chronically painful conditions that cause limitations in mobility, dexterity, and participation in society. They are a major contributor to years lived with disability worldwide and their burden is higher in countries with a lower sociodemographic index, like the Philippines. The goal of this clinical practice guideline (CPG) is to provide recommendations to primary care providers on screening for MSDs among asymptomatic, apparently healthy children and adults. METHODS: Following the Grading of Recommendations Assessment

Barriers and facilitators to using self-sampled tests for the human papillomavirus (HPV): a mixed-methods study to inform a horizon scan.

OBJECTIVES: Human papillomavirus (HPV), particularly high-risk types such as HPV 16 and 18, is a major cause of cervical cancer and other cancers. Despite the United Kingdom's (UK's) commitment to cervical cancer elimination by 2040, participation in HPV screening is declining, disproportionately affecting underserved groups, including those experiencing poverty, people from minoritized racial, ethnic, gender, or sexual identity groups, and people living with HIV. METHODS: We conducted a mixed-methods study to explore awareness, barriers, and facilitators to HPV self-sampling from clinician a

Development of a concussion public policy on prevention, management and education for schools using expert consensus.

OBJECTIVES: Concussions are a major public health concern, and, thus, specific policies have been developed for implementation targeting vulnerable populations such as school-aged children and youth in the school setting, in whom the majority of concussions are sports related. Currently, concussion policies exist in various jurisdictions, including Canada's first concussion policy for schools, Ontario's PPM158, initiated in 2014. However, these policies are often variable in terms of content and comprehensiveness. Our objective was to develop a consensus for the content of concussion policy fo

The development of the International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health Core Sets for deafblindness: A study protocol.

BACKGROUND: Individuals with deafblindness experience a combination of hearing and vision impairments. The World Health Organization has developed a global framework referred to as the International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health (ICF) to describe health and functioning. From the full ICF classification, a selection of categories, referred to as ICF Core Sets, provide users with a tool to describe functioning and disability in specific health conditions. There has been no ICF Core Set created for deafblindness. Given that core sets are instrumental in improving clinical p

Clinical Research in Neonates: Redesigning the Informed Consent Process in the Digital Era.

Background: Currently, many initiatives are devoted to optimizing informed consent for participation in clinical research. Due to the digital transformation in health care, a shift toward electronic informed consent (eIC) has been fostered. However, empirical evidence on how to implement eIC in clinical research involving neonates is lacking. Methods: Semi-structured interviews were conducted with 31 health care professionals active in Belgium or the Netherlands. All health care professionals had experience in conducting clinical research involving neonates. Interviews were audio-recorded, tra

Factors Influencing Use of Continuous Physiologic Monitors for Hospitalized Pediatric Patients.

OBJECTIVES: Continuous physiologic monitors (CPMs) generate frequent alarms and are used for up to 50% of children who are hospitalized outside of the ICU. Our objective was to assess factors that influence the decision to use CPMs. METHODS: In this qualitative study, we used group-level assessment, a structured method designed to engage diverse stakeholder groups. We recruited clinicians and other staff who work on a 48-bed hospital medicine unit at a freestanding children's hospital. We developed a list of open-ended prompts used to address CPM use on inpatient units. Demographic data were
