Optimal treatment of prosthetic valve endocarditis due to Brucella melitensis is unknown. The presence of ring abscess makes extensive surgical débridement and valve replacement essential steps of management. Antimicrobial therapy with tetracycline hydrochloride plus streptomycin sulfate or sulfamethoxazole and trimethoprim can achieve the sterilization of infected cardiac tissue. Late bland periprosthetic leaks occur frequently. Reoperation can be safely performed after a period of antimicrobial therapy. Prolonged treatment with doxycycline hyclate seems advisable.

The influence of the host immunosuppression on antimycobacterial effects of isoniazid, rifampicin or streptomycin was studied on animal models. Differences in survival rates of mice influenced or uninfluenced by azathioprine (Imuran) and exposed to six applications of antituberculous drugs (given once a day in the monotherapy) were statistically evaluated. We describe the gram-scale synthesis of (-)-(1R,2S,3R,4R,5S,6S)-1,3-di(diamino)-1,3-diazido-2,5,6-tri-O-benzylstreptamine from streptomycin by (i) hydrolysis of the two streptomycin guanidine residues, (ii) reprotection of the amines as azides, (iii) protection of all alcohols as benzyl ethers, and (iv) glycosidic bond cleavage with HCl in methanol. Protocols for regioselective monodebenzylation and regioselective reduction of a single azide in the product are also described, providing four optically pure building blocks for exploitation in novel aminoglycoside synthesis.

In this study, bifunctional magnetic ZnCdSe/ZnS quantum dots nanocomposite (MQNs) were synthesized, and firstly used to develop a lateral flow immunoassay (LFIA) for streptomycin (STR) and dihydrostreptomycin (DHSTR) detection in milk, muscle, liver, kidney, and honey simultaneously.
