Anaerobic co-digestion of cyanide-containing cassava pulp with pig manure was evaluated using laboratory scale mesophilic digester. The digester was operated in a semi-continuous mode with the mixed feedstock having C/N ratio of 35:1. Digester startup was accomplished in 60days with loading of 0.5-1kgVS/m(3)d. Subsequently, the loading to digester was increased step-wise from 2 to 9kgVS/m(3)d. This study examined effects of the amount of straw offered on occurrence and severity of gastric lesions in pigs kept in pens (18 pigs, 0.7 m(2)/pig) with partly slatted flooring and 10, 500 or 1000 g straw/pig/day from 30 kg live weight. Scabies is an ectoparasitic infestation by the mite Sarcoptes scabiei. Although commonly self-limiting, a fraction of patients develop severely debilitating crusted scabies. In Spain, trichinellosis represents a public health problem, with an average of five outbreaks per year, wild boar meat being the main source of infection. A trichinellosis survey (2007-2008 hunting campaign) was carried out on wild boars in the Toledo Mountains (south-western Spain, EU) in the context of a surveillance programme on wildlife diseases. PURPOSE: Minimally invasive nephrectomy performed through a natural orifice such as the vagina could enhance cosmesis and improve patient acceptance of the procedure and postoperative recovery. As the vagina has already been proposed as a site of specimen extraction in patients undergoing laparoscopic nephrectomy, the aim of this study was to explore the feasibility of transvaginal, retroperitoneal natural orifice transluminal endoscopic surgery (NOTES) nephrectomy for both left- and right-sided kidneys initially in a porcine model and thereafter in a human cadaver model.
