Conditioned fear stress increases bone resorption in apical periodontitislesions in Wistar male rats.

OBJECTIVE: Because the impact of conditioned fear stress on apical bone resorption is unknown, the aim of the current studywas to use a rat model to evaluate the impact of conditioned fear stress on the bone resorption of inflammatory apical periodontitis lesions. METHODS: Twenty-five animals were divided into two groups. They underwent a surgical procedure in the first left lower molar tooth to expose the dental pulp and induce inflammatory apical periodontitis lesions through the retention of contamination (bacterial infection) during a 56-day period. The animals in the case group were stre

Radiographic evaluation of anatomical variables in maxilla and mandible in relation to dental implant placement.

INTRODUCTION: Oral rehabilitation using implants is rapidly replacing tooth supported prostheses. The success of implants is largely dependent on the quality and quantity of alveolar bone. In this study, we assessed the location of limiting anatomical structures and the amount of alveolar bone available for implant placement. MATERIALS AND METHOD: Six hundred digital panoramic radiographs (300 males and 300 females) of dentate patients aged between 15-60 years were selected from the archives. The radiographs were subdivided into 3 groups with age interval of 15 years. Then the location of men

The impact of loupes and microscopes on vision in endodontics.

AIM: To report on an intraradicular visual test in a simulated clinical setting under different optical conditions. METHODOLOGY: Miniaturized visual tests with E-optotypes (bar distance from 0.01 to 0.05 mm) were fixed inside the root canal system of an extracted maxillary molar at different locations: at the orifice, a depth of 5 mm and the apex. The tooth was mounted in a phantom head for a simulated clinical setting. Unaided vision was compared with Galilean loupes (2.5× magnification) with integrated light source and an operating microscope (6× magnification). The influence of the dentist

Cone beam computed tomography role in diagnosis and treatment of impacted canine patient's: a case report.

A tooth is impacted when its apex is formed but does not erupt as expected during the physiological timeframe of eruption. The frequency with which the upper canine is impacted in the sample examined varies from 1% to 5% of the population in the second decade of life. The most frequent causes of inclusion of the upper canine are: lack of resorption or precocious loss of the root of the deciduous, agenesis of the lateral, an anomaly in its shape, lack of space in the arch, presence of a mechanical obstacle to the eruption, and lastly due to hereditary factors. When dental impaction is suspected

Predicting and preventing root resorption: Part II. Treatment factors.

The main objective of this study was to determine which treatment factors are most clearly identified with external apical root resorption that is detectable on periapical radiographs at the end of orthodontic treatment. The records of 868 patients who completed fixed, edgewise treatment from experienced clinicians in private practice were examined. The horizontal and vertical displacement of the root apex of the maxillary central incisor was measured on cephalometric radiographs. Patients who underwent first premolar extraction therapy had more resorption than those patients who had no extrac

Risk factors for apical root resorption of maxillary anterior teeth in adult orthodontic patients.

The purpose of this study was to identify risk factors for apical root resorption in adult orthodontic patients. Standardized periapical radiographs of maxillary anterior teeth and cephalograms made before and after treatment and treatment charts of 343 adults, representing groups of consecutively treated patients from four orthodontic practices, were examined. Apical root resorption was calculated by subtracting posttreatment tooth length measurements from the corresponding pretreatment measurements. Root width was measured from the mesial to the distal outline of the roots 4 mm from the apex

Pulp revascularization in an immature necrotic tooth: a case report.

Immature permanent teeth damaged by caries or trauma can present a challenge to dentistry. Currently, triple antibiotic paste (TAP) containing ciprofloxacin, metronidazole, and minocycline is used to attempt revascularization in necrotic immature teeth. Therefore, the purpose of this report was to present a case of pulp revascularization in an immature necrotic tooth. An 8-year-old male presented with trauma to the permanent maxillary left and right central incisors. Upon clinical and radiographic examination, the left central incisor was deemed necrotic. Revascularization therapy was performe

A Novel Simplified Workflow for Guided Endodontic Surgery in Mandibular Molars With a Thick Buccal Bone Plate: A Case Report.

One of the challenges in apical surgery in mandibular molars is the thick buccal cortical bone plate, which might lead to access errors, damage to neighboring teeth, and injury to healthy tissue. Surgical guide templates with 3-dimensional (3D) impressions have been suggested for use in such cases, allowing greater precision. Usually, this technique involves a cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) examination related to a 3D oral scanning to generate surgical templates printed from 3D imaging data. This study reports a novel workflow possibility in which apical surgery is performed with the aid

A rare case of static bone cavity in the anterior mandibular region of a 10-year-old boy.

INTRODUCTION: Static bone cavity (SBC) is a bone defect that develops as a result of localized pressure from tissues surrounding the mandible. It is most commonly observed in the mandibular angle of adult males caused by the submandibular gland. The condition is asymptomatic and requires no treatment. The frequency of onset is rare, especially in the anterior mandible, and SBC is extremely difficult to diagnose in children. PRESENTATION OF CASE: This report is on a case of SBC in the anterior mandible of a 10-year-old boy. The condition could not be diagnosed after panoramic radiograph and Ma

A Case of Systemic Infection Caused by Streptococcus pyogenes Oral Infection in an Edentulous Patient.

BACKGROUND: Infections in the oral and maxillofacial region can sometimes extend beyond the oral cavity, with serious consequences. Most oral infections are odontogenic, occurring through the root apex of the tooth or the periodontal pocket. It thus makes sense that edentulous patients have a much lower risk of oral bacterial infection. For this reason, while there are many reports on systemic infections caused by oral infections, few of these describe such infections in edentulous patients. CASE PRESENTATION: We present a case of oral and maxillofacial cellulitis followed by sepsis due to St

Identification of Synergistetes in endodontic infections.

The bacterial phylum Synergistetes consists of Gram-negative anaerobes. Oral Synergistetes are divided in two main clusters, namely A and B. Increasing evidence demonstrates their involvement in etiology of oral infections, including apical periodontitis. This condition causes bone loss around the apex of the tooth, subsequent to pulp inflammation (pulpitis). Although the presence of Synergistetes has been confirmed in endodontic infections by molecular methods, these have not been morphologically identified in the affected apical region, and their prevalence among different endodontic infecti
