Canine models of hereditary human diseases are widely used throughout the biomedical community, particularly when no suitable rodent model exists. In several models, the homozygote dogs die prior to puberty, or have substantially reduced fertility. Prepubertal transplantation of the testes was used to propagate the genotype of a mutant dog that would not otherwise have survived until puberty. PURPOSE: To investigate sperm quality aspirated from the tubuli recti compared to that obtained from microsurgical epididymal sperm aspiration (MESA).
METHODS: Sixteen patients with congenital bilateral absence of the vas deferens (CBAVD) underwent MESA. Six MESA procedures were difficult, and therefore sperm were retrieved from the tubuli recti ductules. Intraoperative sperm parameters, recovery after freeze-thaw, and ICSI outcomes were analyzed and compared between tubuli recti and MESA sperm.

Fifty consecutive patients who underwent vasectomy were followed up over a period of two years, and were subjected to a questionnaire, and the results were analysed. The technique for vasectomy is described and a few modifications are suggested, so that there is a reasonable chance of reversing the operation if need be. Using the vas deferens sequence index (VDSI) and relative penis size index (RPSI) in dogwhelks (Nucella lapillus), imposex levels were assessed at 63 sites within 11 sea inlets during 2010/2011 and compared these with levels gathered since 1987. Sterile females (VDS>5.0) were found at 14 of the 63 sites and 47 sites (75%) met the EcoQO (VDSI<2.0).
