OBJECTIVES: We had developed a method that can help detect and identify lymph nodes affected by the neoplastic process. Our group evaluated the fractal dimension (FD) and X-ray attenuation (XRA) of lymph nodes in HL and compared to their metabolic activity as measured by 18F-FDG-PET examination.

BACKGROUND: We assessed bronchoalveolar lavage (BAL) cultures of brain dead donors seeking to achieve better donor management and decrease transplant complications. Determining the most common source of some postoperative infections causing morbidity and mortality among lung recipients would help to reach this goal.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: This prospective study was performed on 80 brain dead donors from August 2008 to August 2009. Donors with partial pressure of arterial O2 to the fraction of inspired O2 (PaO2/FIO2)>300 mm Hg and a normal chest x-ray underwent bronchoscopy to obtain a BAL.

A 76-year-old man had suffered from asthma since age 6. His asthma had recently worsened due to pneumonia. At a local clinic, he was given steroids and antibiotics for more than a week. Miliary tuberculosis associated with cutaneous lesion has been rarely reported. We report a case of miliary tuberculosis in whom the cutaneous lesion was confirmed as tuberculosis by skin biopsy and bacterial examination. Femoral neck fractures after seizure are rare. This injury can easily be underdiagnosed due to generalised, musculoskeletal pain after seizure. In case of persisting groin pain and limited range of motion X-rays are indicated. Within the first 6 hours after the trauma a joint-preserving therapy is possible. After a delayed diagnosis total hip arthroplasty is necessary. As the result of prolonged intra-articular haematoma the incidence of a femoral head necrosis increases. When choosing the implant, an elevated risk of joint dislocation should be considered.

We describe a case of Phaeoacremonium olecranon osteomyelitis. The patient, initially felt to have traumatic olecranon bursitis, was found to have an indolent filamentous fungus cultured from the olecranon bursa. The occurrence of air embolism during neurosurgical operations in sitting position is described in two cases. Besides the Doppler ultrasound evidence, relevant effects on the cardiopulmonary situation during surgery were observed, which in one case forced an early end of the operation.
