Sixteen patients with allergic rhinitis were recruited into a double-blind crossover protocol studying the immediate effect of nedocromil sodium (NS) on the pattern of nasal symptoms and secretions after allergen challenge. In the present study we evaluated the allergenicity of infant formulas using a guinea pig model. Seven groups of ten guinea pigs each maintained on a diet free of cow milk received either water or pasteurized cow milk (PCM) or a conventional cow milk infant formula (CMF) or whey hydrolysate formula (WHF) to drink. Patch testing is performed to find out the causative allergens for patients, and once they are found, to indicate the exclusive usage of daily necessities that do not contain the causative allergens is necessary, such as when the contact dermatitis is recurrent, persistent, or complicated by secondary hyperpigmentation. Such a procedure has been called "allergen control." Sufficient success has been obtained in the categories of soaps, shampoos, cosmetics, underwear, and some dental metals in Japan with cooperation of industries, and summaries of these investigations are reported.

Late systemic-allergic reactions (defined as occurring between 30 minutes and 6 hours after injection) to inhalant allergen immunotherapy were prospectively studied in four allergy treatment centers; 35,674 injections were administered to 712 patients. The heterologous binding of human IgG to mouse peritoneal mast cells was studied in vitro. The specific percentage of mast cell degranulation after treatment with sera heated for 2 hours at 57 degrees C was determined. These sera were obtained from normal or allergic patients, skin test positive to grass mix or dust, and then challenged separately with each allergen. The results show a high performance of degranulation by anti-human IgG and a direct correlation between skin test positivity and high degranulation values.

An ingredient of a perfume which is a sensitizer may become hypoallergenic by interacting with other ingredients during the ageing process of the perfume. Thus, a patient with an exquisite allergic sensitivity to cinnamic aldehyde tolerates two perfumes containing cinnamic aldehyde without acquiring a dermatitis. There are several theories of why cinnamic aldehyde can become a non-sensitizer in a perfume mixture. Testing with a mature perfume may be much more significant than testing with individual ingredients.
