Effects of glycopyrrolate and atropine for oral secretions and perioperative hemodynamics in children undergoing tonsillectomy and adenoidectomy: a prospective, single-center, randomized, double-blind, controlled trial.

INTRODUCTION: Glycopyrrolate is commonly researched as a preoperative medication or in conjunction with cholinesterase inhibitors to counteract the lingering muscarinic effects of non-depolarizing muscarinic agents. However, studies have yielded inconsistent results regarding the superiority of glycopyrrolate over other anti-cholinergic drugs, such as atropine, particularly its effect on heart rate, blood pressure (BP), and glandular secretions. This study aimed to evaluate the differences in perioperative oral secretions, hemodynamics, and recovery quality with glycopyrrolate versus those wit…

Similarity of the effects of tosyl-L-arginine methyl ester, atropine, caffeine and antitumour alkylating agent on some biological functions of thrombin and platelet 12-lipoxygenase.

The effect of the synthetic thrombin substrate (TAME) and three compounds exerting an opposite effect on Ca-PPI and AdC (caffeine, atropine and meta-tolyl derivative of mechlorethamine (TDM)) on hormone-like and catalytic functions of thrombin was studied. It is shown that both TAME and other drugs under test block effectively the thrombin-induced platelet aggregation, as well as protect the active site of the enzyme from denaturation by dithiothreitol. The same compounds inhibit thrombin in thrombin-fibrinogen reaction and platelet 12-lipoxygenase. These data suggest identity of thrombin moie…

The effectiveness of atropine 0.05% eye drops versus placebo on controlling myopia progression among school children in randomized controlled trials: a systematic review and meta analysis.

BACKGROUND: Particularly in children, atropine eye drops have demonstrated encouraging results in reducing the progression of myopia. Nevertheless, there is insufficient data regarding the single dose atropine 0.05% eye drop’s ability to stop the progression of myopia, despite several studies published in various treatment types and combined comparisons of myopia progression controls. Randomized clinical trial studies measuring spherical equivalent and axial length change outcomes in school-age myopic children without any other health issues that used atropine 0.05% therapy with a placebo cont…

MK-801 is cytotoxic to microglia in vitro and its cytotoxicity is attenuated by glutamate, other excitotoxic agents and atropine. Possible presence of glutamate receptor and muscarinic receptor on microglia.

We examined the cytotoxicity of MK-801 on cultured microglia and demonstrated its cytotoxicity. Cytotoxicity of MK-801 was reduced by the addition of L-glutamate, kainate and NMDA. The action of MK-801 was due to the direct action of microglia. It suggested the existence of glutamate receptor in microglia. Cytotoxicity of MK-801 was reduced by the addition of atropine sulfate which suggested the presence of muscarinic receptor in microglia.

Effect of morphine on leucocyte kinetics. II. Effect of morphine on the white blood count of rabbits' peripheral blood following atropine induced blockade of the parasympathicus and in epinephrectomized animals.

Acute administration of morphine provokes rapid changes in the white blood count of the peripheral blood, initial leucopenia in the differential blood count characterized by both relative and absolute lymphopenia, the PMN level remaining unchanged. The initial leucopenia gradually turns into leucocytosis, the lymphocyte level remaining still low and PMN multiplicating massively. The PMN multiplication is taking effect primarily through their shift from the marginal to the circulation pools. Morphine can be prevented from acting upon the white blood count either by epinephrectomy or naloxon pre

Paper-immobilized liquid-phase microextraction for direct paper spray mass spectrometry and immuno-detection of atropine in baby food, buckwheat cereals, and edible oils at regulatory levels.

BACKGROUND: Atropine is a strictly regulated natural toxin. Monitoring for atropine is thus important, but often expensive and time-consuming. Moreover, the range of relevant matrices, and corresponding differences in required detection limits for atropine vary. Therefore, we developed a more simplified and affordable method, combining immunodetection and mass spectrometry to detect atropine in buckwheat, canola oil, and baby cereals at regulatory levels. RESULTS: In this method, atropine is selectively enriched on paper using a dual-paper-immobilized liquid-phase microextraction (PI-LPME; en…
