The authors presents an updated review of rare malignant tumours of the prostate other than adenocarcinoma, as well as of some diagnostic problems caused by inflammatory pseudotumours. Sarcomas, particularly rhabdomyosarcoma (in childhood) and leiomyosarcoma, represent 0.1 to 0.2% of all prostatic malignant neoplasms. Sarcomas show early local extension and vascular invasion.
