We report an apparently previously undescribed form of lethal osteosclerotic skeletal dysplasia in a 30-week male fetus with micromelic shortness of the limbs. Radiographic findings at necropsy included increased density in all bones, most marked in the skull, mandible, and pubis. The ribs were very short, abnormally modeled, and wide anteriorly. The vertebrae were posteriorly hypoplastic and wedged, particularly in the cervical and lumbar regions. BACKGROUND: Aneurysmal bone cysts (ABCs) are slow-growing, expansile bone tumors most often observed in the long bones and lumbar and thoracic spine. We performed a retrospective review of 36 patients aged 23 to 71 years (mean age, 52 years) who underwent 46 operations through a thoracic or thoracolumbar approach for orthopedic or neurosurgical procedures at Emory University Affiliated Hospitals. UNLABELLED: Nevoid basal cell carcinoma syndrome (NBCCS) is a predisposition to a rare tumor type with a variable phenotype. Besides tumors, skeletal alterations, such as bifid ribs or frontal bossing constitute the phenotype. Recently, a variant of the first cervical vertebra, the ponticulus posticus, was reported to occur in 50% of patients with NBCCS as revealed by analysis of lateral cephalograms.

The objective of this study was to determine the characterization of the developmental toxicity of di-n-butyl phthalate (DBP) in rats. Pregnant rats were given DBP by gastric intubation at a dose of 0.75, 1.0 or 1.5 g/kg on days 7-9, 10-12 or 13-15 of pregnancy. Postimplantation loss was 100% for each period of dosing at 1.5 g/kg. A significant increase in the postimplantation loss was found in dams given DBP at doses of 0.75 and 1.0 g/kg regardless of the days of treatment.
