Passive cutaneous anaphylatic (PCA) reactions could be elicited in young chicks using sensitizing antisera prepared in the chicken. The study objective was to isolate and identify Salmonella with rapid culture method. Meat samples and cloacal swabs were collected from different markets and different farms. The swabs were transported to the laboratory for further analysis. Intestinal mucus is the first line of defense against pathogens and has several active components. Poultry have a short intestine, the mucus of which may contain antiviral components. We hence investigated the antiviral components of mucus and explored their mechanisms of action.
