Electronic Communication in Oxidized Di- and Trinuclear Ruthenium Acetylide Complexes.

The electronic properties of a suite of di- and trinuclear ruthenium bis(acetylide)-based complexes incorporating phenylene and naphthylene … hese species showed that the linearly π-conjugated 2,6-naphthylene bridge enabled better electronic communication between redox-active ruthenium-acetylide sites than the cross-conjugated 2,7-naphthylene bridge.

Skeletal Muscle-Derived Extracellular Vesicles in Interorgan Communication During Aging.

Skeletal muscle is increasingly recognized as a secretory organ that communicates with distant tissues through the release of bioactive factors, including extracellular vesicles (EVs). During aging, muscle-derived EVs have emerged as important mediators of interorgan communication, influencing tissue homeostasis, regeneration, metabolism, and disease progression. Recent studies demonstrate that skeletal muscle EVs carry diverse cargos such as proteins, lipids, metabolites, and regulatory RNAs that can modulate the function of recipient cells in multiple organs. In particular, aging-associated …

Predictors and Themes of Perioperative Patient-Initiated Communication in Septorhinoplasty.

OBJECTIVES: Patients undergoing septorhinoplasty frequently experience perioperative concerns that prompt communication with their clinical care team. We sought to characterize the prevalence and nature of these concerns and identify variables associated with increased concern frequency. METHODS: This study was a retrospective chart review. Records were obtained for patients who underwent septorhinoplasty between August 6, 2017 and August 6, 2022. Demographics, surgical characteristics, medication histories, and details of perioperative concerns were recorded. These included any clinically-re…

[Behavioral Features and Neural Basis of Vocal Communication in Mice].

Mice use ultrasonic vocalizations beyond the range of human hearing to achieve social communication. This review summarizes the behavioral features of mouse ultrasonic vocalizations, including pup calls, male courtship vocalizations, and vocalizations emitted during female-female and male-male interactions. It also compares mouse vocalizations with rat ultrasonic calls and bird songs. Finally, this review discusses male courtship vocalizations as an index of sexual motivation and emotional expression, and outlines their neuroendocrine regulation through sex hormones and neural circuits centere…

CauSTI: causal spatial transcriptomic interaction inference for cell-cell communication.

INTRODUCTION: Cell-cell communication plays a critical role in tissue organization, development, immune regulation, and disease progression. Spatial transcriptomics enables the inference of such communication within the native tissue context. However, existing methods often rely on ligand-receptor co-expression or spatial proximity alone, without explicitly modeling the directional nature of intercellular signaling. METHODS: We propose CauSTI, a causal spatial transcriptomic interaction inference framework for identifying direction-specific cell-cell communication. CauSTI integrates spatial n…

Scientific Storytelling: Considerations and Implications for Research Communication and Engagement.

Effective engagement between scientists and layperson audiences can enhance public understanding of scientific research, strengthen trust and foster support for scientific advancement. Among the various forms of science communication strategies available, narrative approaches, particularly storytelling, have gained attention for their ability to frame scientific findings within meaningful contexts. When used as a complementary form to traditional formats (e.g., technical documents), storytelling can help scientists connect more personally with layperson audiences and strengthen the impact of t…

Dual alexithymia: A relational framework for clinical communication in oncology.

Effective oncology communication depends on both patients' and clinicians' capacity to recognize and convey emotional information. Alexithymia has predominantly been studied as an individual trait. This Letter proposes dual alexithymia - an emergent interactional state arising when emotional awareness is constrained on both sides of the clinical encounter - and argues that it may disrupt the compensatory scaffolding available in single-sided dyads, producing a communication breakdown that neither party readily registers. The construct is distinguished from burnout, empathy deficits and other c…

Lipophagy in disease: signaling control, organelle communication, and therapeutic opportunities.

Lipid droplet (LD) accumulation and impaired lipid mobilization induce lipotoxic stress and contribute to metabolic, cardiovascular, cancer, and neurodegenerative diseases (NDDs). Although LD-selective autophagy (lipophagy) is being increasingly studied, the mechanisms that confer LD specificity and enable tissue- and stage-specific therapeutic modulation remain unclear. Effective lipophagic flux requires coordinated LD coat remodeling, nutrient and energy sensing, and organelle contact. Coat remodeling governs substrate access and droplet recognition. The AMPK-mTORC1-TFEB axis links autophagy

Assessing Visual Speech Communication Abilities: Cross-Situational Consistency in Lipreadability.

Speech perception during face-to-face conversations is perhaps the most functionally significant aspect of multisensory processing in people's everyday lives. Although they may not be aware of it, people use lipreading to both supplement auditory processing under poor listening conditions and compensate for age-related declines. Thus, understanding the sender's role in communication is as important as understanding the receiver's role, and in both cases, a fundamental question concerns whether individual differences reflect abilities and not just skills. From a psychometric perspective, an abi…
