Malassezia restricta is the most predominant fungus in the microbiome of human skin. This microorganism can cause or exacerbate Malassezia-associated skin dermatitis, seborrheic dermatitis, atopic dermatitis, and pityriasis versicolor. The virulence factors of M. restricta have not been analyzed because a gene recombination system has not been developed. In this study, we established an Agrobacterium tumefaciens-mediated gene transfer (ATMT) system, optimized for generating gene-deficient mutants of M. restricta. A mutant of FKB1 gene, which encodes the FKBP12 protein that binds to the calcine…

The changes in disease pattern in a Danish skin clinic during the period 1947 to 1977 is reported. The data rest upon comparisons from patient registrations taken with ten years interval. The study also comprises comparison of frequencies of positive patch tests between 1947 and 1977. The data show, that the disease pattern was far from stable. An increased frequency was registered in atopic dermatitis, allergic contact dermatitis, drug eruptions, urticaria, skin cancer, psoriasis and viral diseases. While reductions were found in all other infectious diseases, seborrheic dermatitis, and so ca

Rashes are extremely common in newborns and can be a significant source of parental concern. Although most rashes are transient and benign, some require additional work-up. Erythema toxicum neonatorum, acne neonatorum, and transient neonatal pustular melanosis are transient vesiculopustular rashes that can be diagnosed clinically based on their distinctive appearances. Infants with unusual presentations or signs of systemic illness should be evaluated for Candida, viral, and bacterial infections. Milia and miliaria result from immaturity of skin structures. Miliaria rubra (also known as heat r
