Percutaneous balloon dilatation was attempted in 15 consecutive neonates (mean age 7.3 (range 1-27) days and weight 3.2 (range 2.5-4.1) kg) with critical stenosis of the pulmonary valve. Dilatation was successful in 11 (73%) patients. The mean balloon to annulus ratio was 1.1 (range 0.6-1.77). The dilatation of oesophageal stenoses with balloon catheters was made in 38 patients with 44 stenoses of different origin. The most frequent stenosis was localized in oesophagogastric or oesophagocolic anastomosis after oesophagectomy, postcorrosive stenoses an those after reflux oesophagitis. The stenoses were mostly of filiform type, the diameter being 1-3 mm (79%) less frequently 4-7 mm (21%). It became possible to dilate 37 stenoses up to 10 to 20 mm, four stenoses to 22 mm. The effect of pupil dilatation with tropicamide 1% on visual acuity and accommodation was assessed in 100 eyes of 52 consecutive patients attending the general ophthalmic outpatient clinic. Snellen visual acuity remained unchanged in 55 eyes and deteriorated by one line in 41 eyes. The remaining four eyes deteriorated by two lines. Tropicamide gave rise to a reduction in the amplitude of accommodation which tended to vary inversely with the age of the patient. However, all patients who wore reading glasses for presbyopia were still able to read when their pupils had been dilated.

A case with a verapamil-sensitive ventricular tachycardia showing right bundle branch block pattern and left axis deviation is described. Electrophysiological evaluation revealed features compatible with previous suggestions of posterior fascicular origin for this unique type of arrhythmia. In contrast to being paroxysmal, as is usually the case, the tachycardia was persistent and led to cardiac enlargement, which was completely reverted following successful treatment with verapamil.

Twenty-one patients with pancreatic pseudocysts secondary to alcoholic pancreatitis were treated by cystojejunostomy (16), cystoduodenostomy (4) and external drainage (1). In all patients, the duct of Wirsung was drained into a defunctionalized loop of the jejunum at the same operation. There was no early or late mortality. 82 patients with fibromuscular renovascular hypertension have been studied. 33 patients were treated surgically (group I), 28 underwent transluminal dilation (group II) and 21 received drug treatment (group III). Percutaneous transluminal dilatation was attempted in 65 patients with renovascular hypertension. In five cases (8 percent), percutaneous transluminal dilatation could not be performed for technical reasons.
