NONO (Non-Pou Domain-Containing Octamer-Binding Protein) gene maps on chromosome Xq13.1 and hemizygous loss-of-function nucleotide variants are associated with an emerging syndromic form of intellectual developmental disorder (MRXS34; MIM #300967), characterized by developmental delay, intellectual disability, poor language, dysmorphic facial features, and microcephaly. Structural brain malformation, such as corpus callosum and cerebellar abnormalities, and heart defects, in particular left ventricular non-compaction (LVNC), represent the most recurrent congenital malformations, recorded both

OBJECTIVES: To investigate the long-term outcomes and risk factors for morbidity and mortality in patients with Ebstein's anomaly, including the effects of type and timing of valve surgery.
METHODS: For this retrospective, record-based study, all patients with Ebstein's anomaly enrolled in the German National Register for Congenital Heart Defects up to June 2021 were eligible for inclusion.
RESULTS: Non-surgical patients (n = 194/49% of 398 patients) had less tricuspid valve regurgitation (p < 0.001) and heart failure symptoms (p < 0.001) than surgical patients (n = 204/51%). Postoperative s

OBJECTIVE: Cone reconstruction has become the preferred surgical technique for Ebstein's anomaly (EA). However, some patients aged ≥ 50 years are unsuitable for repair due to severe leaflet dysplasia, marked annular dilation, or impaired right ventricular function. This study evaluates the clinical outcomes of domestic bioprosthetic valve replacement in patients aged ≥ 50 years with EA.
METHODS: A retrospective analysis was conducted on 15 consecutive patients aged ≥ 50 years with EA who underwent initial bioprosthetic tricuspid valve replacement at the Department of Cardiovascular Surgery, A

We report a case of multiple accessory pathways (APs) in an Ebstein's anomaly patient with a history of prior ablation. Electrophysiological study demonstrated a slow conducting AP which pre-excited ventricle only during atrial tachycardia or rapid atrial pacing. The non-decremental property and a longstanding fragment potential at the ablation target site rule out Mahaim fiber. The slow conducting AP might be caused by inadequate prior ablation, and highlights that delta wave absent and prolonged AV interval in target point could not definitely indicate anterograde conduction block when we ab

This study aimed to analyze prenatal cardiac ultrasound markers of outcome in fetuses with Ebstein's anomaly (EA). From a retrospective database, 35 fetuses diagnosed with EA at fetal medicine centers in Brazil, Italy, and Poland were retrieved. The primary outcome was perinatal mortality. We analyzed prenatal cardiac ultrasound markers of outcomes and perinatal follow-up. Gestational age at diagnosis, extracardiac fetal anomalies, spontaneous fetal demise, and gestational age at each event were recorded. In postnatal survivors, data on cardiac surgery and short-term postoperative outcomes wer

BACKGROUND: Severe neonatal Ebstein's anomaly (EA) and tricuspid valve dysplasia (TVD) are associated with high perinatal morbidity and mortality. The authors recently demonstrated left ventricular (LV) dysfunction and dyssynchrony to be prevalent in affected newborns and to contribute to poor outcomes. The aim of this study was to investigate the impact of patent ductus arteriosus (PDA) closure, spontaneous or surgical ligation, or right ventricular exclusion (Starnes procedure) on LV performance in neonatal EA and TVD.
METHODS: Neonates with EA or TVD encountered from 2004 to 2018 at three

UNLABELLED: Ebstein's anomaly (EA), a congenital cardiac anomaly, is characterized by apical displacement of the tricuspid valve leaflet(s) into the right ventricle. We present the case of a 61-year-old female with a history of EA, Wolff-Parkinson-White syndrome, and patent foramen ovale (PFO), who presented with worsening hypoxia and confusion, in the setting of left lower extremity cellulitis and abscess. The computed tomography (CT) scan of the head showed a cerebellar infarct with hemorrhagic conversion. Magnetic resonance imaging of the head showed a satellite lesion raising concern for t

We present a patient with a complex phenotype including diagnoses of Ebstein's anomaly and Prader-Willi syndrome (PWS) as well as additional congenital anomalies and genetic variants with potential clinical effects. This is the first reported case of both diagnoses present in the same patient. The diagnosis of Ebstein's anomaly was made on prenatal ultrasound. She presented with neonatal hypotonia, feeding problems, and dysmorphic features, followed by later onset weight gain, leading to a diagnosis of PWS. Further evaluations revealed Blaschkoid hyperpigmentation, laryngeal cleft, and pigment

OBJECTIVES: We aimed to evaluate immediate and midterm cardiac remodeling after surgery by cardiac magnetic resonance (CMR) in Ebstein's anomaly (EA), and also to investigate preoperative predictors of right ventricular (RV) normalization.
METHODS: We retrospectively analyzed CMR parameters of the whole heart in adult patients with EA before surgery, at discharge and follow-up.
RESULTS: A total of 26 patients were included and performed CMR at 7 days (interquartile range, 3-13 days) before surgery. Immediate postoperative CMR was finished at discharge (median: 8 [7-9] days; n = 18) and follo

AIMS: Survival rates for unoperated patients with Ebstein's anomaly (EA) are unknown. We estimated overall long-term mortality in operated and unoperated EA patients, compared with the general population in Sweden.
METHODS AND RESULTS: Using national medical registries, Swedish individuals born 1970-93 and diagnosed with EA between 1970 and 2011 were included. The hazard ratio for overall mortality for EA patients (n = 216) vs. the matched comparison cohort (n = 2160) was 43.7 [95% confidence interval (CI): 24.8-82.5]. Mortality risk for EA patients (vs. controls) decreased as birth period pr

Cone reconstruction for Ebstein's anomaly, although effective, is challenging in neonatal cases. Very few reports have discussed recurrent regurgitation. Herein, we report a successful redo tricuspid valve repair for recurrent regurgitation 5 years after cone reconstruction. A 5-year-old boy underwent cone reconstruction for Ebstein's anomaly in the neonatal period. Although tricuspid regurgitation reduced initially, it subsequently worsened. The mechanisms of regurgitation are dilatation of the anteroseptal commissure, indentation in the septal leaflet, and foreshortening of the anterior leaf

BACKGROUND: Ebstein's anomaly is one of the challenging congenital heart diseases (CHDs) that is presented with different anatomical and clinical symptoms. For this reason, patients with this complication require exact diagnostic methods and appropriate treatment approaches. In addition, multiple cardiac defects accompany this anomaly.
CASE REPORT: In this study, we describe a rare associated defect in an adult patient with Ebstein's anomaly and proper surgical methods performed for her.
CONCLUSION: The most important issue in adult patients with Ebstein's anomaly is to pay close attention t

OBJECTIVES: Tricuspid valve dysplasia (TVD) and Ebstein's anomaly (EA) diagnosed by fetal echocardiography vary greatly in terms of clinical severity and prognosis. The Celermajer index and Simpson-Andrews-Sharland (SAS) score have been reported previously for the prediction of prognosis in cases of TVD/EA; however, they do not take into account the hemodynamic impact of left ventricular (LV) function, which has recently been implicated as being important in the pathophysiology of TVD/EA. The aim of this study was to develop a novel scoring system that includes LV function for the prediction o
