BACKGROUND: Hyperemesis Gravidarum (HG) responds only partially to standard antiemetic medications. Children and young people with advanced cancer frequently have a central venous access device (central line) in place which can be used for intravenous medication for symptom management. Those that do not may need a subcutaneous device for medication infusion. Seventy-seven patients presenting for outpatient cystoscopy participated in a trial to assess postoperative recovery when either alfentanil, halothane, or enflurane were used in combination with nitrous oxide/oxygen anaesthesia. A survey was made of drug prescriptions written for all medical/surgical patients in a general hospital on a single weekday in 1978. Of these 348 patients, 195 were over the age of 60. In this elderly group, 62 (32 percent) were receiving psychoactive drugs. Flurazepam was the drug most commonly prescribed (in 63 percent of the patients). Procedures are described for the analysis of the main anthraquinone glycosides of senna powder, senna fruit tablets, and sennoside tablets by high-pressure liquid chromatography (HPLC). In one HPLC analysis, TLC was used to separate the glycosides prior to elution on a strong anion-exchange column with 0.1 M ammonium nitrate solution (pH 9.0) as the mobile phase. In another HPLC analysis, separation was effected using a weak anion-exchange column with 0.1 M ammonium nitrate solution (pH 5.7A) as the mobile phase.

Different groups of dogs were given prostaglandin F2alpha IM. The dosage range was between 0.022 and 0.555 mg/kg of body weight. Defecation, including contents from the cranial portion of the large intestine, occurred in 40% to 100% of the dogs within 3.16 to 12.5 minutes after injection depending on dosage administered. Defecation (83.3% of dogs), without vomition, occurred in dogs given a dosage of 0.111 mg/kg.
