We compared the efficacies of amphotericin B, fluconazole, flucytosine, and micafungin in a systemic murine infection by three isolates of Candida glabrata. Amphotericin B showed the best results, although none of the drugs dramatically reduced mortality or tissue burden in liver or spleen.

Forty Cryptococcus neoformans strains isolated from cerebral spinal fluid specimens collected from 39 patients were included in the study. The MICs for fluconacole were determined by YNB macrodilution test, microdilution tests using both RPMI1640 and YNB medium and E-tests on solidified RPMI1640 medium, Casitone and YNB agar. In comparison with the reference macrodilution method NCCLS M27-P both the microdilution as well as the E-test techniques can be used for fluconacole susceptibility testing of Cr. neoformans.

In a non-comparative multicentre trial 51 patients aged 24 days to 17 years received treatment with intravenous or oral fluconazole for suspected systemic fungal infections. BACKGROUND: To evaluate the efficacy and pharmacological safety of 2 therapeutic trials with fluconazole in candida esophagitis in AIDS patients.
METHODS: A total of 75 episodes of candida esophagitis in 70 AIDS patients were included in an open prospective study. In group I 36 patients were included who received 200 mg of fluconazole orally the first day followed by 100 mg daily for 4 weeks. In group II (34 patients) the length of treatment was reduced to 10 days with the same daily doses. Therapeutic response was evaluated by esophagoscopy, biopsy and fungal culture.

One hundred and eighty three patients with vaginal candidiasis were randomly allocated to treatment with either fluconazole in a single oral 150 mg dose, or ketoconazole, 200 mg twice daily for 5 days.
