Comparative Evaluation of Cairo's RT I and RT II Gingival Recession Defects with Pouch and Tunnel Technique and Vestibular Incision Subperiosteal Tunnel Access with Platelet-Rich Fibrin Membrane.

BACKGROUND: Gingival recession causes apical migration of the gingival margins, resulting in exposed root surfaces that lead to sensitivity, aesthetic concerns, and potential oral health issues. The pouch and tunnel (P and T) and vestibular incision subperiosteal tunnel access (VISTA) techniques are both effective, minimally invasive approaches for root coverage, as both enhance aesthetic outcomes while preserving blood supply and minimizing surgical trauma. AIM: To evaluate the clinical outcomes of P and T and VISTA, combined with platelet-rich fibrin (PRF) membrane in the treatment of gingi…

A Surgical Approach to Root Coverage and Correction of Mucogingival Conditions and Deformities in Mandibular Incisors with Isolated Gingival Recession: Free Mucogingival Graft. A Pilot Prospective Cohort Study.

The aim of this study was to present a periodontal plastic surgery approach to treat gingival recessions (GRs) and correct mandibular incisor mucogingival conditions and deformities. Isolated deep GRs (≥ 3 mm) in the mandibular incisors (n = 24 teeth) were treated: 66.6% of sites were recession types 2 or 3, and 58.3% of teeth were malpositioned. Recessions were treated using free mucogingival grafts (FMGs) harvested from the buccal aspect of donor teeth with altered passive eruption or healthy periodontal support, with < 3 mm between the cementoenamel junction and the buccal alveolar crest. C…

Digital workflow to assess gingival recession coverage independently of the cemento-enamel Junction: a prospective clinical study using the modified coronally advanced tunnel technique with porcine dermal matrix.

OBJECTIVES: The limited number of studies using digital workflows to measure soft tissue changes depend on the cemento-enamel junction (CEJ), which has been reported to be unreliable. Our primary objective was to apply an advanced digital assessment method, measuring independent from the CEJ to evaluate the modified coronally advanced tunnel technique (MCAT) with a porcine dermal matrix (PDM) for gingival recession coverage. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Patients with type RT1 and RT2 gingival recessions were treated with the MCAT and a PDM. Plaster casts (preoperative and 6 months postoperative) we…

Efficacy and safety of acellular dermal matrix versus connective tissue graft for root coverage of Miller's Class I and II gingival recession: a systematic review and meta-analysis.

BACKGROUND: The efficacy and safety between connective tissue graft (CTG) and acellular dermal matrix (ADM) remain inconsistent. Meta-analysis is a valuable approach to resolve inconsistencies across studies and provide a high level of evidence to comprehensively evaluate the effect and safety of ADM versus CTG for root coverage of Miller's Class I and II gingival recession. Our study was conducted to comprehensively analyze the efficacy and safety of ADM versus CTG for root coverage in patients with gingival recession. METHODS: Articles on randomized controlled trials (RCTs) that compared th…
