INTRODUCTION: Management of drug-influenced gingival enlargement is challenging, and surgery is most often indicated. However, because of a unique mechanism of action, azithromycin helps in the management of gingival enlargement caused by cyclosporine. A total of 108 anterior teeth (58 maxillary and 50 mandibular) in 50 patients were included in this study. The purpose of the present study was to evaluate periodontal health status in children with sickle cell disease (SCD). Forty-nine children with SCD and 39 systemically healthy sex- and age-matched children were enrolled in the study. Plaque index, gingival index, bleeding on probing, pocket depth, salivary volume, and hyperplastic index were recorded. Pyogenic granuloma is a common cause of growth of soft tissue in the oral cavity, especially in the gingiva. It is mainly associated with local and chronic irritants besides hormonal changes during pregnancy. Here, the authors present an unusual patient of an extra-gingival pyogenic granuloma with large dimensions and displacing teeth arising in a male patient. This is an interesting patient to be reported due to its exacerbated and atypical clinical features.

BACKGROUND: Dental plaque associated gingivitis is a reversible inflammatory condition caused by accumulation and persistence of microbial biofilms (dental plaque) on the teeth. It is characterised by redness and swelling of the gingivae (gums) and a tendency for the gingivae to bleed easily. INTRODUCTION: The aim of this report is to present a severe case of phenytoin (PHT)-induced gingival hyperplasia in a Saudi patient.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: A 12-year-old male epileptic patient, undergoing PHT therapy, was diagnosed clinically with severe gingival hyperplasia. His treatment consisted meticulous oral care and weekly professional prophylaxis.
