Objective To investigate the clinical value of multi-slice spiral CT(MSCT) in the diagnosis of mild digestive tract hemorrhage. Methods Thirty-five patients with mild gastrointestinal hemorrhage were examined by enhanced MSCT.CT signs were observed and compared with pathologic examination findings.Results Diseases in these 35 patients included gastric and duodenal ulcer and inflammation(n=4,11.4%),esophagogastric variceal rupture(n=7,20.0%),gastric carcinoma(n=3,8.6%),gastric stromal tumor(n=3,8.6%),gastric polyp(n=1,2.9%),colonic malignancy(n=5,14.2%),small intestinal stromal tumor(n=6,17.1%)

During a seven year period 18 benign small intestinal tumors were histologically documented in patients referred to us for a small bowel study, using a barium infusion technique. These included seven leiomyomas, five adenomatous polyps, two Peutz-Jeghers hamartomas, one myoepithelial hamartoma, one lipoma, one Brunner's gland adenoma and one neurilemmoma. BACKGROUND: Primary hypertrophic osteoarthropathy (PHO) is a rare disease related to HPGD and SLCO2A1 gene mutation. Gastrointestinal involvement of PHO is even rarer with unknown pathogenesis. Clinical features of GI complication in PHO mimics other auto-immune based bowel entities, such as inflammatory bowel diseases and cryptogenic multifocal ulcerous stenosing enteritis (CMUSE). We aimed to analyze the clinical, genetic, radiological and pathological features of Chinese patients with PHO and determine the difference between PHO patients presenting with and without GI involvement.

The detection of osteomas in the maxillofacial region may be the initial clinical finding in Gardner's syndrome (GS). The most common location of osteomas is in the skull, but the lesion can also occur in the jaws. We present a case of a 47 year old male patient with GS who was referred for radiological evaluation. Lymphoid polyps of the rectum are rare lesions. We report on an 8 1/2-year-old boy, who presented with hematochezia and abdominal pain. Flexible endoscopy revealed large sessile polyps of the rectum and lymphonodular hyperplasia of the duodenum, terminal ileum und descending colon. The past decade has witnessed revolutionary developments in the applications of operative endoscopy, and many new techniques have replaced conventional surgical procedures. With the modern flexible instruments available for gastro-intestinal endoscopy, it is possible to reach the oesophagus, stomach, duodenum, colon and ileum. The range of treatment options has been successively broadened by the combination of endoscopy with such procedures as diathermy, laser, electrohydraulic shock waves and ultrasonography.

An unusual case of colitis cystica profunda is described. The patient presented with intestinal obstruction due to a polypoid mass in the descending colon, which was diagnosed as colitis cystica profunda after the patient underwent colectomy. Three other separate lesions were present in the ascending, transverse, and sigmoid colon. There was no antecedent or associated colonic disease. The disease recurred 1 yr later in the remaining colon and rectum.

Ileal endorectal pull-through can be performed in adults after abdominal colectomy and excision of rectal mucosa. The procedure requires a painstaking dissection of the mucous membrane of the rectum to ensure cure of the polyposis or ulcerative colitis for which it is carried out. Some cases of ulcerative colitis are inappropriate for this dissection, and Crohn's disease prohibits the use of this operation. Fifteen operations in adults are described herein. Certain technical maneuvers have been of help to us and these are described. We have favored a diverting ileostomy maintained for 3 months

The case of a 78-year-old man with the characteristic clinical and pathologico-anatomic pictures of the Cronkhite-Canada syndrome associated with sigmoid cancer is reported. He died ten months after the onset of his disease. Autopsy findings of the patient are described in detail. The other fifty three cases of the syndrome are reviewed, and clinical and pathologico-anatomic features of the Cronkhite-Canada syndrome are discussed.
