The effect of 807-nm light-emitting diode photobiomodulation on peripheral nerve injury.

Photobiomodulation (PBM) has demonstrated potential in promoting peripheral nerve regeneration. However, there is a limited and inconclusive study on the application of light-emitting diode (LED) for nerve injury repair. In this study, we designed an 807-nm LED device with high luminous uniformity to investigate the effects of LED-based PBM on peripheral nerve injury repair. RSC96 cells were utilized as the target cells and optimal light parameters were selected based on ATP concentration, CCK-8 assays, PCR, and immunofluorescent staining. One-way analysis of variance and Student's t-test was

Red-Light (670 nm) Therapy Reduces Mechanical Sensitivity and Neuronal Cell Death, and Alters Glial Responses after Spinal Cord Injury in Rats.

Individuals with spinal cord injury (SCI) often develop debilitating neuropathic pain, which may be driven by neuronal damage and neuroinflammation. We have previously demonstrated that treatment using 670 nm (red) light irradiation alters microglia/macrophage responses and alleviates mechanical hypersensitivity at 7 days post-injury (dpi). Here, we investigated the effect of red light on the development of mechanical hypersensitivity, neuronal markers, and glial response in the subacute stage (days 1-7) following SCI. Wistar rats were subjected to a mild hemi-contusion SCI at vertebra T10 or

Efficacy of low-level laser therapy for subacromial impingement syndrome: a meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials.

To systematically explore the therapeutic effects of low-level laser therapy (LLLT) on pain, shoulder range of motion (ROM), and functional disability in patients with subacromial impingement syndrome (SIS). Eight databases were systematically searched. We assessed study quality with the Cochrane Risk of Bias tool, and evidence quality was evaluated using the GRADE approach. Seventeen studies and twenty-one RCTs were included, with 1118 patients enrolled. Relative to the control group, LLLT markedly reduced pain (MD = -0.54, 95% CI: -1.05 to -0.02, P = 0.04). LLLT also significantly improved s

Exploring dose-dependent outcomes of photobiomodulation with two infrared wavelengths applied to injured Drosophila retinae.

The use of photobiomodulation as a therapeutic tool has attracted copious research over the past several years. However, given the many variables involved in the design of a treatment regimen, such as wavelength, irradiance, exposure duration, number of treatments, and total treatment period, many studies are inherently not comparable as they often differ in at least one of these parameters. Here, we assess dose and wavelength dependency of photobiomodulation in a model of light-induced retinal damage in Drosophila melanogaster. Light-damaged Drosophila were exposed to either 850 or 950 nm lig

Comparison of efficacy and safety of fractional 1064 nm picosecond laser and low-fluence Q-switched Nd:YAG laser in the treatment of melasma.

Melasma is a persistent and recurrent condition that remains difficult to manage effectively. Both fractional 1064 nm picosecond Nd:YAG (PSNY) and low-fluence Q-switched Nd:YAG (QSNY) lasers have been applied in treatment, yet there is currently insufficient data to compare their efficacy and safety. This retrospective study evaluated 99 female patients with melasma, including 54 treated with PSNY laser and 45 with QSNY laser. Each patient received two to five laser sessions at 2-4-week intervals. Clinical efficacy was evaluated by the modified Melasma Area and Severity Index (mMASI) at baseli

Circumscribed Morphea Successfully Treated With Excimer Laser: Analysis of Histopathological Changes.

Localized scleroderma (LSc) is an autoimmune condition characterized by localized cutaneous sclerosis, sometimes extending into deeper tissues. Phototherapy, including excimer laser therapy (ELT), is considered an effective and minimally invasive treatment option for patients without extracutaneous involvement. However, little is known about the histopathological and molecular alterations that occur during treatment. Here, we report a case of circumscribed morphea successfully treated with ELT, accompanied by detailed longitudinal histological analysis. A 78-year-old woman presented with gradu

Light-based therapy of infected wounds: a review of dose considerations for photodynamic microbial inactivation and photobiomodulation.

SIGNIFICANCE: Chronic or surgical wound infections in healthcare remain a worldwide problem without satisfying options. Systemic or topical antibiotic use is an inadequate solution, given the increase in antimicrobial-resistant microbes. Hence, antibiotic-free alternatives are needed. Antimicrobial photodynamic inactivation (aPDI) has been shown to be effective in wound disinfection. Among the impediments to the wide utility of aPDI for wounds is the high variability in reported photosensitizer and light dose to be effective and unintentional detrimental impact on the wound closure rates.
