Shape space is a decades-old conceptual model of antibody-antigen interactions that underlies antigenic maps used to trace viral evolution. Here, we apply this concept to T cell receptors (TCRs) and the peptide-MHC complexes (pMHCs) that they recognize. We start by reviewing the history of shape space and its deep connections to concepts in statistical physics (energy landscapes) and computer science (complexity theory). Autoimmune dacryoadenitis is a frequent cause of lacrimal insufficiency. In order to test hypotheses regarding mechanisms that can trigger this syndrome, we developed a method to obtain a preparation of rabbit lacrimal gland epithelial cells essentially free of immune-system cells. Hereditary hydronephrosis is a rare condition but several families are described in the literature. The inheritance pattern is autosomal dominant (McKusick number 143400) but the exact aetiology of the hydronephrosis is not clear. However, linkage with the HLA region on chromosome six has been shown previously. We report a family not showing linkage to this region, giving further evidence of genetic heterogeneity in this condition.
