The number of new upper molar distalization appliances keeps climbing since the headgear's appearance at the end of the 60s. The aim of this critical review of the literature is to list and explore current upper arch molar distalization appliances in treatment of Class II malocclusion available in the market to this day. This article critically analyzes their benefits as well as their side effects and limitations.

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the dentoskeletal effects of different anterior open bite treatment modalities in children.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: This cephalometric study assessed changes resulting from different treatment approaches on 77 growing children with anterior open bite. A control group (n = 30) was used for comparison. Lateral cephalograms were available before treatment and after 12 months. The sample was divided into four groups: removable palatal crib associated with a chincup (G1), bonded spurs associated with a chincup (G2), chincup (G3), and nontreated control (G4). Statistical compa

Turner syndrome is caused by complete or partial absence of one X chromosome. These patients usually have a delay in growth and altered body proportions, causing sexual infantilism, short stature, delayed bone maturation, and variations in craniofacial morphology, among other systemic complications. The skeletal features associated with this syndrome include maxillary growth reduction with midface hypoplasia; mandibular micrognathia; high, narrow palate; V-shaped maxillary arch; and open bite. This case report shows a two-phase orthodontic treatment in a patient with Turner syndrome with a Cla

This is a case report of a patient with bilateral labial impaction of maxillary canines causing pressure resorption on the lateral aspects of the maxillary central incisors. The orthodontic treatment plan included extraction of the impacted canines, positioned between the central and the lateral incisors. Six years after the orthodontic treatment, the affected central incisors remained asymptomatic.

Normalization and regulation of the stomatognathic system and whole-body postural changes were observed in five class II division 1 and open bite patients. All five patients had a history of nasal breathing difficulties, lip incompetence and abnormal whole-body posture.

Mandibular asymmetry may be the result of unequal ramus height, unequal corpus length, or a combination of both problems. The diagnosis of asymmetry is essential in treatment planning, since a number of therapeutic options must be considered in the treatment to a seated condylar position in the glenoid fossa. When asymmetry exists, it may be necessary to: accept finished treatment with the mandibular midline to the right or left of the maxillary midline, finish the molars and canines in an end-to-end relationship on the short side, treat with asymmetric extractions, intervene surgically, or us

This paper relates a case of Burkitt lymphoma, whose initial presentation was a deep-bite malformation, that accentuated within a month. Orthodontic consultation referred this 8 years old boy to hospital, where diagnosis was ascertained. The authors discuss radiographs that have been taken before and during the installation of the clinical symptomatology. They point out the main radiographic signs encountered with maxilla involvement in Burkitt lymphoma.

The angle ANB relates the apical base not only to each other but also to point nasion and the profile. Furthermore, it is influenced by prognathism and inclination of the maxillo-mandibular complex. Both the angle AB/Occlusal plane and the "Wits" appraisal are based on elements within the maxillo-mandibular complex and not influenced by structures outside this complex. Cephalograms of 4 groups of 25 cases each comprising ideal occlusion, class-II/1, class-II/2 and class-III malocclusions were collected. Angle ANB, angle AB/Occlusal plane and "Wits" appraisal in 10 variations using points A and

INTRODUCTION: This study aimed to investigate craniofacial skeletal morphology in pediatric obstructive sleep apnea-hypopnea syndrome (OSAHS) patients with different malocclusion types.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: A retrospective cross-sectional analysis study was conducted at Chengdu Second People's Hospital from 2023 to 2024. A total of 299 children diagnosed with OSAHS (aged 10-12 years) were included. Craniofacial structures were assessed using Jarabak and Ricketts methods. Patients were divided by malocclusion type: Class II (n = 150, 56.7% male, mean age 11.2 ± 0.6) and Class III (n = 149, 5

A common orthodontic task is to correct anterior tooth position using brackets whose torque, tip and in-out are pre-adjusted. Bracket prescription greatly influences final aesthetics and function. Pre-adjusted orthodontic brackets have in-built prescriptions of torque, tip and in-out which are optimized for average cases. Refinement of tooth position can be achieved by archwire adjustment or archwire auxiliaries. Modifications to bracket position such as inversion can also help achieve individual tooth movements. Planning bracket position must be considered at the outset of treatment to achiev

OBJECTIVES: This study was carried out to determine the prevalence of malocclusion in 13-15-year-old North Jordanian schoolchildren.
METHODS: One thousand and three children aged 13-15 years (619 females, 384 males) were examined using Björk et al. (1964) registration method. A full clinical examination was carried out in the school premises using a mouth mirror under natural lighting. Alginate impressions were then taken for each student together with a wax bite. The impressions were poured the same day by an orthodontic technician. Peri-apical radiographs were taken for the students when hy

OBJECTIVE: Molar distalization is a therapeutic approach commonly used for treating Class II malocclusions. However, the extended duration of this treatment often leads to its replacement with alternative methods that offer shorter treatment times. Micro-osteoperforation (MOP) has been introduced as a technique aimed at accelerating tooth movement and reducing treatment duration. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the impact of MOP on molar distalization outcomes to provide evidence for its effective and safe use.
SEARCH METHODS: A comprehensive search was conducted across multiple data

BACKGROUND: Malocclusions in children and adolescents are not only associated with aesthetic and functional issues but may also influence body posture due to neurophysiological links between the temporomandibular system and the spinal column. This study aimed to evaluate how functional orthodontic treatment may affect mandibular function, upper body posture, and postural control in children with skeletal Angle Class II malocclusion, by comparing findings before and after treatment. METHODS: Thirty-nine children (18 f/ 21 m; median age 11.1 years, IQR 9.46–12.00 years) with skeletal Class II ma

INTRODUCTION AND AIMS: This study aims to perform a bibliometric analysis of the literature on correction of Class II malocclusion in growing individuals by evaluating the evolution and current state of treatment and to predict future research hot spots and trends.
METHODS: Keyword queries were used to search for articles in the Web of Science Core Collection at the electronic library of University of Catania. The resulting literature data were imported into CiteSpace 6.3.R1 and VOSviewer software to analyse authorship, countries, institutions, and keywords and to perform cluster analysis.

BACKGROUND: The purpose of this study was to assess morphological changes of the upper anterior alveolus after retraction of a maxillary incisor by applying three-dimensional (3D) superimposition of pretreatment (T1) and posttreatment (T2) cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) data.
METHODS: The study group was comprised of 28 patients with skeletal Class II malocclusion who underwent incisor retraction. CBCT data were acquired before (T1) and after (T2) orthodontic treatment. Labial and palatal alveolar thickness were assessed at the crestal, midroot and apical levels of the retracted incisor

OBJECTIVES: To investigate the accuracy of torque, tip and rotation and linear intra-arch movements yielded by passive self-ligating lingual straight-wire appliances with brackets featuring square slots.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: Twenty-five adult Caucasian patients (16 females and 9 males; mean age 26.5 ± 4.3 years) with Class I or mild Class II head-to-head malocclusion were orthodontically treated via passive lingual self-ligating straight-wire appliances (ALIAS, Ormco, Orange, CA) with no extraction. Records were retrospectively analysed, and digital models of pre-treatment (T0), planned (T1
