Modeling and measuring graduate students' generative AI literacy: a study based on Marzano's taxonomy.

BACKGROUND: Generative AI is rapidly reshaping graduate students' academic research practices. Existing research lacks both literacy models specific to graduate students and a unifying theoretical framework to explain each dimension's functional role and interrelationships, constraining its cultivation and evaluation. METHODS: Semi-structured interviews with 14 professors were analyzed using grounded theory, with Marzano's taxonomy of educational objectives serving as the theoretical framework for selective coding. A corresponding scale was developed and empirically validated with 308 graduat

AI models as consciousness attributors: how LLMs ascribe consciousness to other agents.

Research on AI consciousness has largely focused on whether AI systems are conscious and how humans attribute consciousness to them. Yet large language models (LLMs) increasingly function as consciousness attributors, generating judgments about whether and to what degree other entities are conscious. We introduce model-generated consciousness attribution as an object of empirical operationalization and diagnosis, defining an attribution rule as the recurring relationship between features of a target and an evaluator's ratings, without implying subjective belief, intention, or experience. From Shouting to Calm Conversations: A Qualitative Study of Family Communication Transformation Through a Culturally Adapted Multiple Family Group Therapy in HIV-Affected Families in Ghana.

Family communication dysfunction significantly impacts HIV medication adherence and mental health outcomes among adolescents in sub-Saharan Africa, yet evidence-based family interventions remain scarce in resource-limited settings. This qualitative descriptive study examined family communication transformation following culturally adapted Multiple Family Group Therapy (MFGT) for adolescents living with HIV and their families in rural Ghana. Focus group discussions were conducted with 20 caregivers and 19 adolescents who completed the 11-session intervention. All core therapeutic content was de

Stretching the Truth: Identifying, Defining, and Measuring Confabulation for Speech-Language Pathologists Working With the Traumatic Brain Injury Population.

PURPOSE: Confabulation is a complex phenomenon that presents unique challenges for speech-language pathologists (SLPs) providing cognitive-communication rehabilitation for individuals with traumatic brain injury (TBI). However, confabulation is conceptually poorly defined, and no clear descriptions or guidelines exist for the assessment or management of confabulation for SLPs. This tutorial provides a condensed background regarding underlying theories, differing etiologies, and previously used assessments and interventions in order to provide current recommendations for SLPs working with indiv

Trajectories of Self-Awareness Across the Alzheimer's Disease Spectrum: A Systematic Review of Its Potential Contribution to Early Diagnosis.

Background/Objectives: Self-awareness constitutes a key metacognitive construct supporting self-regulation and adaptive functioning in aging. This systematic review examined how self-awareness fluctuates across the Alzheimer's disease (AD) continuum and explored its associations with cognitive performance and neuroimaging markers. Methods: A systematic search was conducted in databases including PubMed, Scopus, Science Direct and Web of Science covering the period from 2016 to 2026, and the review was registered on the Open Science Framework (OSF). The selection process followed PRISMA guideli

Third-Generation Cognitive and Behavioral Therapies for Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder: A Narrative Review.

Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) is a chronic and disabling condition associated with significant distress and functional impairment. First-line treatments rely primarily on pharmacotherapy and cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), particularly exposure and response prevention (ERP). Although effective, a substantial proportion of patients continue to show clinically significant symptoms after treatment. In recent decades, alternative psychological therapies have been investigated to complement CBT and address its limitations in OCD management. This narrative review, based on the relevant lit

Relation between frontal pole volumes and cognitive insight in Schizophrenia.

OBJECTIVE: Cognitive insight comprising self-reflection and self-certainty is an important determinant of functional outcomes in Schizophrenia. The neural correlates of cognitive insight in Schizophrenia are underexamined. The frontal pole (FP) is implicated in metacognitive function in healthy individuals, but its role is not well examined in Schizophrenia. We had earlier reported the relationship between Frontal pole volumes and cognitive insight in a small sample of only male patients. Hence, we studied this relationship in an independent sample of schizophrenia patients and healthy control

Are fear of cancer recurrence and fear of progression equivalent constructs?

BACKGROUND: The predominant definition of fear of cancer recurrence (FCR) conflates FCR with fear of progression (FOP). However, this assump … ing were more strongly associated with FCR than FOP. However, both FCR and FOP were associated with metacognitions and intrusions. INTERPRETATION: These findings suggest that whilst FCR and FOP are related with some overlapping predictors, they are not the same construct. Hence, it is necessary to ensure that in clinical practice and research these constructs …

Children Devise and Selectively Use Tools to Offload Cognition.

From maps sketched in sand to supercomputing software, humans ubiquitously enhance cognitive performance by creating and using artifacts that bear mental load [1-5]. This extension of information processing into the environment has taken center stage in debates about the nature of cognition in humans and other animals [6-9]. How does the human mind acquire such strategies? In two experiments, we investigated the developmental origins of cognitive offloading in 150 children aged between 4 and 11 years. We created a memory task in which children were required to recall the location of hidden tar

The fear of others: a pilot study of social anxiety processes in paranoia.

BACKGROUND AND AIMS: There is good reason to consider the role of social anxiety processes in paranoia; both the research and clinical literature indicate significant overlap between the two presentations. The aim of this study was to explore cognition and behaviour that are typically associated with social phobia, in people with paranoia, and then to draw out theoretical and clinical implications. METHOD: We used a cross-sectional between-subjects design to compare participants with persecutory delusions (without social phobia), social phobia, a clinical control group with panic disorder, an

Religion's evolutionary landscape: counterintuition, commitment, compassion, communion.

Religion is not an evolutionary adaptation per se, but a recurring cultural by-product of the complex evolutionary landscape that sets cognitive, emotional, and material conditions for ordinary human interactions. Religion exploits only ordinary cognitive processes to passionately display costly devotion to counterintuitive worlds governed by supernatural agents. The conceptual foundations of religion are intuitively given by task-specific panhuman cognitive domains, including folkmechanics, folkbiology, and folkpsychology. Core religious beliefs minimally violate ordinary notions about how th
