Development and Validation of a Nursing-Integrated Nomogram to Predict 1-Year Ulcer Recurrence in Patients with Diabetic Foot Ulcers After Endovascular Therapy.

BACKGROUND: Endovascular therapy (EVT) has become the first-line treatment for ischemic diabetic foot ulcers (DFU). However, the rate of ulcer recurrence within one year remains high, leading to repeat hospitalizations and amputations. Current prognostic models primarily focus on vascular patency and biological markers, largely overlooking the critical influence of nursing assessments, patient self-care behaviors, and social support systems. OBJECTIVE: To construct and validate a novel nomogram that integrates clinical indicators with nursing assessment variables to predict the risk of 1-year

Feasibility of a physical activity programme embedded into the daily lives of older adults living in nursing homes: protocol for a randomised controlled pilot feasibility study.

BACKGROUND: Older adults living in nursing homes spend the majority of their time inactive. The associated levels of chronic disease place an increasing burden on healthcare systems. Physical activity (PA) interventions delivered through exercise classes may be resource-intensive and require specialist staff. The aim of this study is to explore the feasibility and acceptability of a PA programme embedded into the daily lives of older adults living in nursing homes and to examine the preliminary effects of this on physical mobility and quality of life. METHODS: A randomised controlled pilot fe

Perspectives on barriers and facilitators influencing twinned nurse leader partnerships during implementation of the Rwanda human resources for health program.

BACKGROUND: The global nursing workforce shortage disproportionately affects low- and middle-income countries (LMICs), accounting for 89% of this deficit, with inadequately trained nurses due to limited resources. Addressing this shortage requires nurse leaders who are essential in education and training. One strategy to address this global health challenge is forming twining partnerships between high-income and LMIC institutions. The Rwanda Human Resources for Health (HRH) initiative (2012-2019) exemplified this partnership between Rwanda's Ministry of Health and U.S. academic institutions. H

Nurse educators' perspectives of trauma-informed educational practices in undergraduate nursing education: An interpretive descriptive study.

BACKGROUND: Trauma-informed care (TIC) is an essential framework for nursing practice, yet its integration into undergraduate nursing education remains limited. Trauma-informed educational practices extend TIC principles to teaching and learning contexts and have the potential to transform nursing education by addressing student well-being and reducing secondary traumatic stress. However, little is known about how nurse educators understand and implement TIC in undergraduate nursing programs. AIM: This study explored Ontario nurse educators' knowledge about TIC and its potential to transform

Comparative evaluation of nurse-led versus traditional trauma services in plastic surgery: a retrospective cohort study.

BACKGROUND: Traditional trauma care often experiences significant delays in surgical readiness due to fragmented coordination between surgical and nursing teams. Nurse-Led Trauma Services (NLTS) have emerged as a collaborative alternative to optimize clinical efficiency. This study evaluates the efficacy and safety of an NLTS model compared to Traditional Trauma Services (TTS) in an emergency plastic surgery department. METHODS: This retrospective cohort study analyzed 248 patients (NLTS: n = 107; TTS: n = 141) admitted to a tertiary emergency center in China for plastic surgical intervention

Strategic communication to strengthen nurses' professional identity and drive cultural change in healthcare organizations: A JBI scoping review protocol.

Strategic communication plays a vital role in healthcare organizations undergoing continuous cultural transformation, yet its impact on reinforcing nurses' professional identity remains underexplored. Nurses' professional identity-how they perceive and enact their roles shaped by professional values and social interactions-is fundamental to job satisfaction, resilience, collaboration, and retention. This scoping review protocol outlines a study designed to systematically map and synthesize existing literature on the interaction between strategic communication, professional identity, and cultur

Integrating Citizen Science into Advanced Practice Nursing education: a contemporary challenge.

Advanced Practice Nursing is internationally recognised as an innovative model of practice that expands the traditional scope of nursing by integrating specialised knowledge, advanced clinical skills, and greater autonomy in clinical decision-making. Within this model, research competence is recognised as a strategic pillar for consolidating Advanced Practice Nursing practice. Citizen Science, in turn, represents an innovative approach that promotes the active involvement of citizens throughout the research process, strengthening the alignment between research priorities and community needs. Development of a non-melanoma skin cancer detection model.

BACKGROUND: The incidence and prevalence of skin cancer is rising. A detection model could support the (screening) process of diagnosing non-melanoma skin cancer. METHODS: A questionnaire was developed containing potential actinic keratosis (AK) and basal cell carcinoma (BCC) characteristics. Three nurses diagnosed 204 patients with a lesion suspicious of skin (pre)malignancy and filled in the questionnaire. Logistic regression analyses generated prediction models for AK and BCC. RESULTS: A prediction model containing nine characteristics correctly predicted the presence or absence of AK in

Leadership and ethics in nurse-nurse relationships.

Qualities of nursing leadership may be reflected in the patterns of relating illuminated through communications between interdependent members of a discipline and interdisciplinary professional healthcare relationships. Authority and responsibility in leading-following reside with the designated leader. However, there is power with person in situation with the ever-present possibility of conflict. The author in this column will begin a discussion of conflict in nurse-nurse relationships and offer questions for straight thinking regarding the ethics of leading-following situations with nurse-nu

Death and Dying in the Emergency Department: A New Model for End-of-Life Care.

BACKGROUND: Death and dying remain taboo subjects in society today and therefore people may come to the end of their life without having thought about what death and dying might be like and what it is to have a good death. The purpose of this qualitative study was to understand the experience of death and dying in a hospital emergency department. Culturally, some individuals are unprepared for death, and when death occurs in an emergency setting it can be particularly shocking. METHODS: A phenomenological study was undertaken, based on the existential phenomenology of Merleau-Ponty; and frame

Providing effective evidence-based catheter management.

Around a quarter of people admitted to hospital are catheterized at some point, however, urinary catheterization can have catastrophic effects on the bladder and a persons ability to regain continence in the future (Patel and Arya, 2001). Although most urinary catheters are used for a short-term period, bladder drainage complications, such as pain or bypassing, can occur (Niël-Weise and van den Broek, 2005). Sometimes, when these problems develop, or if the catheter is expelled, nurses react by changing the catheter, even though this is not necessarily the most appropriate solution. In fact, c
