Raynaud's phenomenon and digital necrosis of the fingers are rare complications of hypereosinophilia. We report a case of a smoking male who developed Raynaud's phenomenon and digital necrosis of the fingers associated with idiopathic hypereosinophilia with angiographically documented occlusion of small and medium arteries of the extremities. The eosinophils may play a thrombotic role in vascular pathology and eosinophil blood count should be checked when investigating patients with digital gangrene.

We report a patient who presented with gangrene of the penis due to renal failure and calciphylaxis. In view of his advanced underlying conditions we pursued an expectant approach. Hypotensive hemorrhagic necrosis of the basal ganglia and brainstem has only occasionally been described. Three such cases are reported. Cardiac arrest had occurred in all cases, and it took at least 1 hour to restore adequate circulation. The patients remained comatose for 2 days to 2 weeks until death. Persistent hypotension causing ischemia in the distribution of deep perforating arteries is considered to have been the key underlying mechanism. Hemorrhage is thought to have been caused by extravasation of red blood cells through damaged blood vessels.

This study describes the prevalence and demographics of avascular necrosis (AVN) in children with acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL). With improving survival of ALL patients on modern chemotherapy regimens, an increasing number of children with AVN will be presenting to orthopaedists. We report a case of rhinocerebral mucormycosis presenting in a patient with AIDS and review the literature on mucormycosis occurring in the setting of HIV disease. Mucormycosis in HIV is rare. However, it can be the presenting opportunistic infection in AIDS. Predisposing factors for Mucor infection in HIV disease include low CD4 count, neutropenia, and active intravenous drug use. Subcutaneous fat necrosis (SFN) of the newborn characteristically affects full-term infants who have experienced perinatal distress, such as hypothermia, obstetric trauma, or asphyxia. We report a newborn who had pallor, deep breathing, and severe anemia immediately after birth. She developed SFN on the fourth postnatal day. Her condition improved after blood transfusions and the skin lesions resolved in 6 weeks. This appears to be the first report of SFN associated with anemia.
