Yellow Laser Photocoagulation of Deep Conjunctival Nevus: A Minimally Invasive Technique.

PurposeTo evaluate the safety and efficacy of yellow laser photocoagulation for deep conjunctival nevi.MethodologyThis prospective intervent … Anterior segment OCT confirmed subepithelial lesions in all, with intralesional cysts in 60%. Mean nevus diameter was 4.2 mm (range: 2-11), and 70% showed severe pigmentation. Laser treatment was completed in one session for 90% of eyes; one required a second due to large size. No significant changes were observed in ocular surface parameters. At a mea …

Concurrent syringocystadenoma papilliferum and basal cell carcinoma arising from nevus sebaceous.

Here, we report a case of a female adult patient presenting with fleshy lesions on her scalp who underwent elective excision, and two separate lesions were identified on histopathology. She was found to have an unusual concurrent presentation of syringocystadenoma papilliferum (SCAP) and basal cell carcinoma, emphasising the importance of differential diagnosis in cutaneous lesions. While SCAP is benign, the presence of basal cells necessitates careful monitoring and appropriate treatment. Factors contributing to the simultaneous occurrence of these lesions, such as genetic predisposition or e

Nevus lipomatosus superficialis mimicking ectopic breast tissue: A rare case report.

RATIONALE: Diagnosis of solitary superficial lipomatous mass may vary depending on circumstances. Although preliminary diagnosis can be made through clinical symptoms and imaging studies, final diagnosis can change through histological examination. This is the first reported case of nevus lipomatosus superficialis (NLS) resembling ectopic breast tissue which may provide valuable insights for clinicians managing similar lesions. PATIENT CONCERNS: A 41-year-old female had a solitary mass on her left lower flank, lasting more than 10 years with cyclic pain corresponding to her menstrual cycle. …

Autopsy case of linear nevus sebaceous syndrome with KRAS (G12D) mutation.

Linear nevus sebaceous syndrome (LNSS) is a neurocutaneous syndrome associated with systemic complications that involve multiple organs, including the skin, central nervous system, eyes, and skeleton. LNSS is considered to be caused by mosaic RAS gene mutation. In this report, we present an autopsy case of LNSS in a Japanese boy. The affected neonate had hydrops fetalis and was born at 28 weeks and 4 days of gestation, weighing 2104 g. He had bilateral inverted eyelids, verrucous linear nevus separated along Blaschko's line, myocardial hypertrophy, and pharyngeal constriction, and underwent in…

Dysplastic nevus part II: Dysplastic nevi: Molecular/genetic profiles and management.

Dermatologists frequently see patients with clinically atypical nevi and dermatopathologists interpret histologically dysplastic nevi on a near-daily basis, but there is great variability in the definition and management of such lesions. This part of the CME review focuses on information published since the previous comprehensive review (2012), with emphasis on molecular and genetic attributes of histologically dysplastic nevi and clinical management.

A Prediction Model to Discriminate Small Choroidal Melanoma from Choroidal Nevus.

OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to develop a validated machine learning model to diagnose small choroidal melanoma. DESIGN: This is a cohort study. SUBJECTS PARTICIPANTS AND/OR CONTROLS: The training data included 123 patients diagnosed as small choroidal melanocytic tumor (5.0-16.0 mm in largest basal diameter and 1.0 mm-2.5 mm in height; Collaborative Ocular Melanoma Study criteria). Those diagnosed as melanoma (n = 61) had either documented growth or pathologic confirmation. Sixty-two patients with stable lesions classified as choroidal nevus were used as negative controls. The external valid…

Nevus Unius Lateris with Bilateral Oral Mucosal Lesions: An Unusual Presentation.

Verrucous epidermal nevi (VEN) are cutaneous hamartomas characterized by keratinocytic hyperplasia. Majority are linear in distribution and tend to follow the Blaschko lines; however, some may have zosteriform (segmental) or systematized distribution involving widespread areas of skin. The systematized ones are further classified into "Nevus Unius Lateris" when one-half of the body is affected, and "Ichthyosis Hystrix" showing bilateral distribution, both being the uncommon forms. Although it can affect any body part, it rarely involves the head and neck region with seldom involvement of mucos…

Management of Inflamed Conjunctival Nevus with Topical Antiallergic Medications: Case Series.

PURPOSE: To report our findings in three cases of an inflamed conjunctival nevus whose size and degree of pigmentation were reduced by topical antiallergic and immunosuppressive ophthalmic solutions. METHODS: Observational case series. Three patients with inflamed conjunctival nevus were examined by slit-lamp biomicroscopy, and the findings before and after the treatments were compared. RESULTS: All three patients had a slightly pigmented and edematous conjunctival tumor at the corneal limbal area. The tumors were hyperemic, and papillae and follicles were present on the superior conjunctiva…

Somatic KRAS mutation affecting codon 146 in linear sebaceous nevus syndrome.

Linear Sebaceous Nevus Syndrome is a rare disorder that presents with nevus sebaceus in association with corneal dermoids, colobomas, choroidal osteomas, and arachnoid cysts. It is thought to represent a mosaic RASopathy. These are disorders characterized by postzygotic somatic mutation in genes involved in RAS/MAPK signaling pathway. In this report we describe two patients with linear sebaceous nevus syndrome found to have mutations in codon 146 of KRAS with evidence of mosaicism. This specific mutation has previously been reported in Oculoectodermal Syndrome and Encephalocraniocutaneous Lipo…

Factors Related to Nevus-Associated Cutaneous Melanoma: A Case-Case Study.

A proportion of cutaneous melanomas display neval remnants on histologic examination. Converging lines of epidemiologic and molecular evidence suggest that melanomas arising from nevus precursors differ from melanomas arising de novo. In a large, population-based study comprising 636 cutaneous melanomas subjected to dermatopathology review, we explored the molecular, host, and environmental factors associated with the presence of neval remnants. We found that nevus-associated melanomas were significantly associated with younger age at presentation, non-brown eye color, trunk site, thickness of…
