An Unusual Perioral Presentation of Pityriasis Folliculorum Mimicking Periorificial Dermatitis.

Demodex mites are commonly found on human skin, but excessive proliferation can contribute to inflammatory eruptions. Pityriasis folliculorum is a Demodex‑associated condition characterized by follicular roughness and fine scale. Although it most often affects the cheeks, its presentation can vary and may resemble other papulopustular disorders. We describe a patient who developed a perioral papulopustular eruption with prominent follicular roughness. The condition persisted despite treatment with topical metronidazole, topical tretinoin, and topical antifungal therapy. Given the lack of respo…

Diagnostic Challenge in Diagnosing Atypical Pityriasis Rosea: A Case Report.

INTRODUCTION: Pityriasis rosea is a self-limited inflammatory skin condition most commonly associated with systemic active viral infection, particularly human herpesvirus (HHV)-6 and HHV-7. Generally appearing as a herald patch, the rash subsequently spreads, commonly in a "Christmas tree" pattern on the back. There are atypical variants in which pityriasis rosea can present, making diagnosis challenging. This case is unique in that pityriasis rosea was misidentified, and it was only confirmed following histopathologic examination. Due to misidentification, there was an exacerbation of disease…

Rapid clearance of extensive juvenile pityriasis rubra pilaris with ixekizumab.

Juvenile pityriasis rubra pilaris is a rare inflammatory skin disorder currently without any FDA-approved treatments, and lesions can be refractory to conventional treatment with topical corticosteroids, methotrexate, and oral retinoids. We herein present a case of a 6-year-old boy who attained clearance of extensive juvenile pityriasis rubra pilaris within 2 weeks of starting ixekizumab therapy. Therapeutic effect has been durable at 6 months, and patient continues on therapy without adverse effects. Our case highlights a new, rapidly effective treatment option for pediatric patients with thi…

Pityriasis Rosea Eruption Following the Administration of Oxford-AstraZeneca Vaccine.

The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) infection has led to accelerated development and utilization of vaccines to prevent its implications on health. One of these vaccines is a vector-based, Oxford-AstraZeneca Vaccine (AZD1222). Frequently reported side effects are related to host-immune response. While dermatologic manifestation is peculiar in nature and denotes a serious eruption that might defer future vaccination. Herein, we present a case of a medically free 37-year-old female who developed clinical and histological evidence of pityriasis rosea (PR) after administration of a second-dose…

Pityriasis Rosea Following Pfizer-BioNTech Vaccination in an Adolescent Girl.

Pityriasis rosea (PR) is an acute self-limiting exanthematous skin disorder characterized by the presence of a primary solitary lesion called a herald patch and the subsequent development of diffuse papulosquamous lesions within 1 to 2 weeks. This is a case of COVID-19 vaccine-induced PR in the age group (12-18 years) that was recently approved for vaccination. We report a case of a 15-year-old otherwise healthy female with a history of 2 weeks of single oval primary plaque appearing on the right wrist 2 days after receiving the second dose of Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine, followed by diffuse and m…
