The objective of this study was to estimate the tetracycline resistance level in the modern population of Neisseria gonorrhoeae in the Russian Federation, where this drug was removed from the treatment regimen for gonococcal infections in 2003. BACKGROUND: Neisseria meningitidis is a human pathogen, carried asymptomatically in the nasopharynx, that can also cause invasive meningococcal disease. Understanding the carriage/invasiveness balance is crucial, and bacterial genetic factors may impact this balance. In Spain during March-April 2024, an outbreak of invasive meningococcal disease (IMD) occurred in four young adults, exhibiting high case fatality with two deaths.
