In the period from January 1995 until December 2000, 272 horses underwent a laparotomy for gastrointestinal disorders. The results of these surgeries were evaluated. From these 272 patients 176 (= 65%) were discharged in good health from the hospital. When the patients that were euthanized immediately after the start of the surgery, because of a fatal deterioration, were not taken into account, the short time survival rate was 77%. Two hundred and thirty sequential parotid tumors seen from March 1985 to 1995 were reviewed for their clinical presentation, diagnostic evaluation, pathological diagnosis, treatment modalities, and age and sex distribution. OBJECTIVES: Retrospective study of acute hepatitis C cases observed in general hospitals.
METHODS: Questionnaire sent by mail to members of the Association Nationale des Gastroentérologues des Hôpitaux Généraux (ANGH) in December, 1997. Data were updated in September, 2001.

A 10-year retrospective study of pediatric toxicologic deaths was performed at the Medical University of South Carolina (Charleston, SC) from January 1989 to December 1998. During this time, 709 pediatric forensic autopsies were performed on children younger than 18 years of age. In a retrospective study, from 1994 to 1998, of inseminations with frozen semen in dogs, a total of 312 bitches of 70 different breeds were inseminated with imported (n = 183) or domestic (n = 129) semen. The overall whelping rate was 70% and mean (+/- SEM) litter size was 5.3 +/- 0.2 pups. Studied a sample of 24 Danish children selected from a larger group of 56 children who had received obscene telephone calls from a single adult offender to ascertain the psychological consequences of this form of sexual abuse. The clinical findings and outcome of 161 horses diagnosed with 174 episodes of nephrosplenic entrapment (NSE) were reviewed retrospectively. The median age at presentation was 5 years (9 months to 24 years), and duration of colic was 2-92 h. Nasogastric reflux was present in 49 of 113 horses (43.4%) and was significant (> or = 21) in 32 (28.3%) horses. The recurrence rate was 13/161 (8.1%). Thirteen horses (13/174, 7.5%) had other lesions including small intestinal obstruction (4), 360 degrees large colon torsion (5), gastric rupture (2), thromboembolic colic (1) and small colon infarction (1)
