Processing Speed and Verbal Learning Ability as Predictors of Assessor-Rated and Ecological Momentary Assessment Self-Reported Functioning: Findings from AMP SCZ.

BACKGROUND AND HYPOTHESIS: Processing speed and verbal learning are linked to functioning in people at clinical high-risk for psychosis (CHR-P). However, a clear understanding of these relationships has been limited by the use of single-value assessor ratings of functioning and limited incorporation of self-report and longitudinal functional assessments. This study aims to examine the effect of processing speed and verbal learning on longitudinal assessor-rated and self-reported functioning. STUDY DESIGN: Individuals at CHR-P (n = 1282) and community controls (n = 425) who participated in Acc

Environmental impact of orthodontic treatment: a simplified fast-track comparative life-cycle impact assessment of self-ligating metal brackets and clear aligners.

OBJECTIVE: Sustainability is a prominent topic in modern-day society, with a trend toward reducing environmental impact. The growing amount of plastics and the release of greenhouse gases during waste management raise concerns. This study compares the environmental burden of clear aligners- and self-ligating metal brackets (fixed appliances) to identify the production phase where improvements could best reduce impact. METHODS: A simplified fast-track life cycle impact assessment (LCIA) was performed for four illustrative patient cases (two aligner, two fixed appliances). Data were derived fro

Dynamic Associations Between Negative Affect, Rumination, and Nonsuicidal Self-Injury in Daily Life: An Ecological Momentary Assessment Study of Adolescent Psychiatric Outpatients.

Nonsuicidal self-injury (NSSI) is an increasingly serious public health problem among adolescents, but little is known about the short-term concurrent and temporal associations among emotions, cognition and NSSI in daily life. This study employed the Ecological Momentary Assessment (EMA) method to investigate the within and between person associations among negative affect, rumination, and NSSI thoughts and behaviors among adolescents in the natural environment. Thirty-five Chinese adolescents (aged 12-19 years; 77% female) receiving psychiatric outpatient care completed EMA surveys three time

I've got a friend in me: The effect of self-compassion on affect via emotion regulation in adolescents using ecological momentary assessment.

Self-compassion has been associated with reductions in negative affect and increases in positive affect in both adolescents and adults. Surprisingly, little research has investigated the pathways through which self-compassion and affect are linked in adolescents. Therefore, the current study examined how self-compassion, assessed in daily life, influenced momentary affect via three emotion regulation strategies: cognitive reappraisal, distraction, and rumination. A total of 236 adolescents (Mage = 13.47 years, SDage = .42, 11-15 years; 130 males) participated in an ecological momentary assessm

Overcoming limitations of self-report: an assessment of fear of weight gain in anorexia nervosa and healthy controls using implicit association tests.

BACKGROUND: Fear of weight gain is a characteristic feature of anorexia nervosa (AN), and reducing this fear is often a main target of treatment. However, research shows that 20% of individuals with AN do not report fear of weight gain. Studies are needed that evaluate the centrality of fear of weight gain for AN with a method less susceptible to deception than self-report. METHODS: We approximated implicit fear of weight gain by measuring implicit drive for thinness using implicit association tests (IATs). We asked 64 participants (35 AN, 29 healthy controls [HCs]) to categorize statements a
