68Ga-FAPI PET/CT Detected Non-FDG-Avid Gastric Stromal Tumor.

We presented a case of 67-year-old man with epigastric discomfort and anorexia for more than 2 months. No abnormal 18F-FDG uptake was found throughout the gastrointestinal tract on 18F-FDG PET/CT. The patient was enrolled in the 68Ga-FAPI PET/CT clinical trial, and a 68Ga-FAPI PET/CT was performed to help detect primary lesion. This examination demonstrated a nodular thickening of the gastric wall with an increased 68Ga-FAPI uptake in the greater curvature of the stomach. Finally, the pathological result confirmed the diagnosis of gastric stromal tumor. This case highlights that 68Ga-FAPI PET/

Rare Mesenchymal Tumors of the Pelvis: Imaging and Pathologic Correlation.

Most pelvic tumors originate from the organs. Less commonly, tumors can arise from the various anatomic pelvic compartments and are comprised of mesenchymal tissue: muscles, connective tissue, vessels, lymphatics, and fat. Among some of the rarer entities are benign tumors (eg, angiomyxoma, cellular angiofibroma, and desmoid fibromatosis), malignant tumors (eg, sarcoma), and tumors that can manifest as benign or malignant (eg, solitary fibrous tumor or nerve sheath tumor). Because these tumors are uncommon and often manifest with nonspecific clinical features, imaging (usually MRI) is an initi

Classic but unexpected: a case of Jefferson fracture.

A man was found lying dead next to a ladder, with only a laceration surrounded by an abrasion visible upon external examination. No skull fractures were palpable. A CT scan and MRI showed a Jefferson fracture of the atlas, associated to a posterior displacement of the skull, a fracture of the dens of the axis, and fractures of the bodies of C5 and C6. Jefferson fractures typically result from a blow to the apex of the skull. In such cases, forensic pathologists should suspect the existence of a Jefferson fracture, particularly when no severe injuries are visible externally.

[The study of the diagnostic value of 64-slice CT in obstructive sleep apnea hypopnea syndrome in Müller maneuver].

OBJECTIVE: To examine the location, extent and cause of collapsed airway in Müller maneuver in OSAHS patients with CT scan, and provide the evidence for surgery. METHOD: Thirty patients with moderate or severe OSAHS were measured with 64 slice CT in quiet breathing and in Müller maneuver. After three-dimensional reconstruction and virtual endoscope handing of the upper airway, we compare the cross-section area and the dimensions of five levels as well as the thickness of retropharyngeal and lateral pharyngeal tissue in two conditions. The evaluation values include the length and thickness of

Bilateral renal myxoid perineuriomas.

A perineurioma is a benign tumor of the peripheral nervous system which is composed of perineurial cells. Perineuriomas commonly develop as extraneural tumors from soft tissues and less commonly have intraneural localization. This case report describes a 25-year-old man with large bilateral renal masses that were diagnosed as perineuriomas. After surgical excision, the patient recovered fully and had no evidence of recurrence at the 1- and 2-year follow-up examinations.

Chest wall lipoblastomatosis in a 2-year-old girl: a case report and literature review.

Lipoblastoma is an uncommon tumor of adipose tissue that usually occurs in infancy and early childhood. They predominantly locate in the extremities, but are less frequently found in the head and neck region, trunk and various other locations. The most common sign is a rapidly growing mass. In spite of their potential for local invasion and rapid growth, they are benign tumors and have no distant metastasis. Although more than 180 cases of lipoblastoma distributed over various parts of the body have been reported, only nine cases were located in the thoracic wall. We present the case of a two-

Myopericytoma involving the parotid gland as depicted on multidetector CT.

Myopericytoma is a newly proposed subgroup of perivascular tumors in the World Health Organization classification of soft tissue tumors. In this study, we report a case of a benign myopericytoma with detailed multidetector CT (MDCT) findings in the parotid gland, a location that has not been described for this type of tumor previously. The clinical presentation, imaging features, histopathological and immunohistochemical findings, and the differential diagnosis with other tumors in the parotid gland are described and reviewed.

Neoplastic and non-neoplastic proliferative disorders of the perirenal space: cross-sectional imaging findings.

The perirenal space, located between the anterior and the posterior renal fasciae, is shaped like an inverted cone with an apex that extends into the iliac fossa. Perirenal tumors and pseudotumors primarily originate either from the kidney or as part of a systemic disease process and have characteristic histopathologic features and biologic behavior. The lesions may be classified on the basis of their distribution and imaging features as solitary soft-tissue masses (renal cell carcinoma, lymphangioma, hemangioma, and leiomyoma), rindlike soft-tissue lesions (lymphoma, retroperitoneal fibrosis,

Tissue response to mechanical vibrations for "sonoelasticity imaging".

The goal of "sonoelasticity imaging" is to differentiate between normal soft tissues and hard lesions. This is done by measuring and then displaying the ultrasound Doppler spectrum of regions within tissues which are mechanically forced with low frequency (20-1000 Hz) vibrations. The resolution and sensitivity of the technique ultimately rest on the spatial resolution of ultrasound Doppler detection, the low frequency mechanical properties of tissues, and the vibration response of layered, inhomogeneous regions with hard tumor inclusions and complicated boundary conditions set by the presence

Mandibular symphyseal fracture simulated by a foreign body in the chin.

INTRODUCTION: Penetrating foreign bodies occurring after maxillofacial injuries are a diagnostic challenge for the trauma surgeon. Different materials and various sites of penetration in the maxillofacial region are described in the literature. We present the peculiar course of a patient with an endoral retained foreign body after a penetrating facial injury. The diagnostic pitfall in this type of trauma is highlighted owing to the hyperdensity of the foreign body that, at the computed tomographic (CT) axial scan, simulated a vestibular cortical fracture of the mandibular body and deceived bot

Development of equine upper airway fluid mechanics model for Thoroughbred racehorses.

REASON FOR PERFORMING STUDY: Computational fluid dynamics (CFD) models provide the means to evaluate airflow in the upper airways without requiring in vivo experiments. HYPOTHESIS: The physiological conditions of a Thoroughbred racehorse's upper airway during exercise could be simulated. METHODS: Computed tomography scanned images of a 3-year-old intact male Thoroughbred racehorse cadaver were used to simulate in vivo geometry. Airway pressure traces from a live Thoroughbred horse, during exercise was used to set the boundary condition. Fluid-flow equations were solved for turbulent flow in

[Stanford Type A Acute Aortic Dissection Localized in the Aortic Root with Difficulty in a Definitive Diagnosis:Report of a Case].

A 39-year-old man presented with sudden onset of chest pain. The initial computed tomography angiography (CTA) showed a small amount of pericardial effusion and a soft tissue density localized in the aortic root, but no intimal flap was identified in the aorta. Aortic dissection was suspected, and the patient was hospitalized at the intensive care unit for close monitoring. On the day of admission, repeated non-contrast computed tomography (CT) showed no significant changes in the aorta or pericardial effusion. Electrocardiography-gated, thin-slice contrast-enhanced CTA revealed an intimal fla

Orbital Cellulitis-When Computed Tomography Imaging Is Falsely Reassuring.

An 8-year-old male presented to the pediatric emergency department with subjective fever, blurry vision, and left eye pain. On physical examination, there was mild left lower lid erythema and a subtle left eye elevation deficit. Computed tomography demonstrated preseptal soft tissue swelling without orbital involvement; however, there was varying amounts of paranasal sinus opacification. Despite the negative scan, a diagnosis of orbital cellulitis associated with sinusitis was made and treatment with intravenous antibiotics was initiated. A magnetic resonance imaging performed subsequently rev

Features of CT and EUS in mesenteric plexiform neurofibroma with Neurofibromatosis type I: A case report.

Plexiform neurofibroma(PNF) is a rare benign tumor of the peripheral nerve, belonging to a subtype of neurofibroma. PNF is common in the head, neck and trunk. It is uncommonly observed in the mesentery. We report a case of mesenteric PNF in a 64-year-old man history of neurofibromatosis type I(NF1), which caused abdomen pain. In addition, the computer tomography(CT) and endoscopic ultrasonography(EUS) manifestations of mesenteric PNF were analyzed. The imaging appearance of a mesenteric plexiform neurofibroma is that many low-density (CT) /mixed echo (EUS) soft tissue masses surrounding the su

State of the art in germ cell tumor imaging.

Germ cell tumors (GCTs) are the most common tumors of the testis and arise from germinal epithelium cells in the seminiferous tubules. All GCTs show malignant behavior and frequently metastasize. The diagnosis of GCTs depends on the clinical manifestations, laboratory parameters, preoperative imaging features, and tissue biomarkers. Ultrasonography and Doppler ultrasonography are the primary imaging modalities used to evaluate testicular masses. Sonoelastography is a diagnostic tool that can measure the stiffness of tissue and may differentiate between benign and malignant tumors of testis. Ma

Multidetector computed tomographic imaging of Erdheim-Chester disease.

Erdheim-Chester disease is a rarely reported disease that can affect nearly every organ and chiefly infiltrates the connective, perivascular, and adipose tissue. The disease is a form of non-Langerhans-cell histiocytosis characterized by the proliferation of foamy histiocytes; its cardiovascular complications carry a severe prognosis. We present the case of a 29-year-old woman who was admitted for analysis of her angina. Our evaluation with use of cardiac multidetector computed tomographic angiography revealed large mediastinal soft tissue that compressed the patient's left anterior descending

Autoimmune pancreatitis associated with idiopathic retroperitoneal fibrosis: a case report.

A 69-year-old man presented with obstructive jaundice and dark urine. Contrast-enhanced computed tomography revealed an enlarged pancreas with homogenous enhancement. Endoscopic retrograde pancreatography demonstrated short-segmental, irregular narrowing of the main pancreatic duct. The patient underwent exploratory laparotomy and needle biopsies of the pancreas, which showed marked fibrotic change with lymphocyte infiltration. These clinicopathologic findings suggested autoimmune pancreatitis. Four years later, computed tomography demonstrated marked periaortic soft tissue surrounding a calci

The use of custom-designed midfacial and submalar implants in the treatment of facial wasting syndrome.

Facial wasting syndrome is part of a lipodystrophy that occurs as a complication of highly active antiretroviral therapy. The loss of subcutaneous fat in the cheeks and temples results in a hollow-eyed, bony, emaciated appearance that is characteristic of the results of treatment of human immunodeficiency virus. Cessation of therapy results in a rebound in viral load and subsequent morbidity. The appearance of facial wasting syndrome is optimally treated with custom-designed implants that are made using high-resolution computed tomography combined with surgeon input and computer-aided design a
