Depression, Anxiety, and posttraumatic Stress Disorder After Traumatic Injury: A Temporal Retrospective Cohort Study.

INTRODUCTION: Traumatic injury can precipitate mental health conditions, yet the scale and timeline of depression, anxiety, and posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) development remain unclear. We aimed to characterize the monthly incidence and prevalence of these conditions following traumatic injury. METHODS: We conducted a retrospective cohort study using the TriNetX Research Network. Adult patients with an emergency department or inpatient encounter in January 2019 were classified as injured (International Classification of Diseases, 10th Revision Codes S01-S99, T07, T14, T79) or noninjure

Neurocognitive Intraindividual Variability in Veterans with Mild Traumatic Brain Injury History and Posttraumatic Stress Disorder.

OBJECTIVE: Veterans with a history of blast-related mild traumatic brain injury (mTBI) and posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) may be at risk for greater cognitive concerns and worse functional outcomes compared to those with either condition in isolation. However, traditional neuropsychological assessment approaches have yielded equivocal results in these populations. The present study examined an alternative method for detecting subtle cognitive inefficiencies: neurocognitive intraindividual variability (IIV), a measure of within-person performance consistency. METHOD: Participants were 79

[Sleep disturbances in patients with post-traumatic stress disorder: possible mechanisms and main treatment approaches].

The review summarizes the results of sleep studies in patients with posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and describes the specific features of nightmares as well as other sleep disturbances specific to this disease. Hypothetical mechanisms of impaired adaptive function of dreams and sleep-dependent reconsolidation of emotional memory in PTSD are addressed. The diagnostic value of dreams during the acute posttraumatic period is discussed. Modern methodological approaches to the treatment of PTSD and concomitant insomnia and nightmares are presented.

Tracing the paths: a systematic review of mediators of complex trauma and complex post-traumatic stress disorder.

UNLABELLED: Complex trauma is associated with complex-posttraumatic stress disorder (CPTSD). While dissociative processes, developmental factors and systemic factors are implicated in the development of CPTSD, there are no existing systematic reviews examining the underlying pathways linking complex trauma and CPTSD. This study aims to systematically review evidence of mediating factors linking complex trauma exposure in childhood (birth to eighteen years of age) and subsequent development of CPTSD (via self-reports and diagnostic assessments). All clinical, at-risk and community-sampled artic

COVID-19 post-traumatic stress disorder: the role of ACEs, alexithymia, and attachment in the Italian population.

OBJECTIVE: The COVID-19 pandemic is considered a collective traumatic event. Several studies have highlighted high levels of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) symptoms among the general population during the pandemic. The general aim of this research is to explore the role of adverse childhood experiences (ACEs), alexithymia, and anxiety and avoidance attachment dimensions as risk factors that are making individuals more vulnerable to PTSD-COVID-related symptoms. SUBJECTS AND METHODS: The COVID-19-PTSD Questionnaire, 20-Item Toronto Alexithymia Scale (TAS-20), Adverse Childhood Experience

Downregulation of lncRNAs Gomafu, NONMMUT033604.2, and NONMMUT064397.2 in the hippocampus of mice with model of post-traumatic stress disorder.

OBJECTIVES: Molecular mechanisms of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) development have been analysed by evaluati-ng changes in the expression level of long non-coding RNA (lncRNA) as a potential biomarker of the disease and as one of the molecular aspects associated with the disease development. METHODS: In our study, we used quantitative polymerase chain reaction (qPCR) to evaluate changes in the expression level of long non-coding RNA - Gomafu, NONMMUT033604.2, and NONMMUT064397.2 - in the hippocampus of mice that were subjected to an artificially induced middle single prolonged stress

Prevalence of Complex Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder in Serving Military and Veteran Populations: A Systematic Review.

Serving military personnel and veterans are known to be at elevated risk of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), and some veterans have been shown to respond poorly to current standard treatments. Evidence so far suggests that according to the 11th edition of the International Classification of Diseases and Related Health Problems guidelines, complex PTSD (CPTSD) may be of higher prevalence in the general population than PTSD. The aim of the study was to investigate the prevalence of CPTSD compared to PTSD in serving and ex-serving military populations. A systematic review was conducted with

Incidence of Perinatal Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder in Catalonia: An Observational Study of Protective and Risk Factors.

Pregnancy and childbirth have a great impact on women's lives; traumatic perinatal experiences can adversely affect mental health. The present study analyzes the incidence of perinatal post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) in Catalonia in 2021 from data obtained from the Registry of Morbidity and Use of Health Resources of Catalonia (MUSSCAT). The incidence of perinatal PTSD (1.87%) was lower than in comparable studies, suggesting underdiagnosis. Poisson regression adjusting for age, income, gestational weeks at delivery, type of delivery, and parity highlighted the influence of sociodemograph

Antidepressants in the acute treatment of post-traumatic stress disorder in adults: a systematic review and meta-analysis.

Currently, there are few pharmacotherapy options for clinicians treating post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), and antidepressants are usually the medication of choice. This meta-analysis aimed to review the efficacy of antidepressants in the acute treatment of PTSD in adults while investigating the contribution of study design and placebo response to the findings of these studies. Randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled clinical trials that compared antidepressants with placebo for acute treatment of PTSD were selected. Standardized mean difference (SMD) in change in Clinician-Administe

Assessing acceptance and feasibility of a conversational agent to support individuals living with post-traumatic stress disorder.

OBJECTIVE: Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is a pervasive health concern affecting millions of individuals. However, there remain significant barriers to providing resources and addressing the needs of individuals living with PTSD. To address this treatment gap, we have collaborated with clinical experts to develop PTSDialogue-a conversational agent (CA) that aims to support effective self-management of PTSD. In this work, we have focused on assessing the feasibility and acceptance of PTSDialogue for individuals living with PTSD. METHODS: We conducted semi-structured interviews with ind

Defining a screening tool for post-traumatic stress disorder in East Africa: a penalized regression approach.

BACKGROUND: Scalable PTSD screening strategies must be brief, accurate and capable of administration by a non-specialized workforce. METHODS: We used PTSD as determined by the structured clinical interview as our gold standard and considered predictors sets of (a) Posttraumatic Stress Checklist-5 (PCL-5), (b) Primary Care PTSD Screen for the DSM-5 (PC-PTSD) and, (c) PCL-5 and PC-PTSD questions to identify the optimal items for PTSD screening for public sector settings in Kenya. A logistic regression model using LASSO was fit by minimizing the average squared error in the validation data. Area
