Choroidal Optical Coherence Tomography Angiography: Noninvasive Choroidal Vessel Analysis via Deep Learning.

Background: The choroid is the most vascularized structure in the human eye, associated with numerous retinal and choroidal diseases. However, the vessel distribution of choroidal sublayers has yet to be effectively explored due to the lack of suitable tools for visualization and analysis. Methods: In this paper, we present a novel choroidal angiography strategy to more effectively evaluate vessels within choroidal sublayers in the clinic. Our approach utilizes a segmentation model to extract choroidal vessels from OCT B-scans layer by layer. Furthermore, we ensure that the model, trained on B

Optical Coherence Tomography-Based Functional Stenosis Assessment: FUSION-A Prospective Multicenter Trial.

BACKGROUND: Intravascular imaging and intracoronary physiology may both be used to guide and optimize percutaneous coronary intervention; however, they are rarely used together. The virtual flow reserve (VFR) is an optical coherence tomography (OCT)-based model of fractional flow reserve (FFR) facilitating the assessment of the physiological significance of coronary lesions. We aimed to validate the VFR assessment of intermediate coronary artery stenoses. METHODS: FUSION (Validation of OCT-Based Functional Diagnosis of Coronary Stenosis) was a multicenter, prospective, observational study com

Optical coherence tomography features in vitreoretinal lymphoma compared with non-infectious uveitis.

BACKGROUND: Vitreoretinal lymphoma (VRL) is a rare intraocular malignancy that poses a diagnostic challenge due to the non-specific clinical presentation that resembles uveitis. The use of spectral domain optical coherence tomography (SD-OCT) has emerged as a valuable imaging tool to characterize VRL. Therefore, we sought to determine the specific OCT features in VRL compared to the uveitides. METHODS: Retrospective chart review of patients who were seen at Mayo Clinic from January 1, 2010 through December 31, 2022. The medical records and SD-OCT images at time of initial presentation were re

Bootstrapping of Corneal Optical Coherence Tomography Data to Investigate Conic Fit Robustness.

BACKGROUND: Fitting of parametric model surfaces to corneal tomographic measurement data is required in order to extract characteristic surface parameters. The purpose of this study was to develop a method for evaluating the uncertainties in characteristic surface parameters using bootstrap techniques. METHODS: We included 1684 measurements from a cataractous population performed with the tomographer Casia2. Both conoid and biconic surface models were fitted to the height data. The normalised fit error (height-reconstruction) was bootstrapped 100 times and added to the reconstructed height, e

Optical Coherence Tomography in Inflammatory and Neoplastic Lesions Deforming the Choroidal Profile.

The choroid is the main part of the uvea, the vascular layer of the eye that lies between the retina and the sclera. The high vascular component of the choroid makes this structure susceptible to inflammation in multisystemic diseases, as well as the most common site of metastasis in the eye. Therefore, the choroid is involved in many pathological conditions, from uveitis to intraocular tumors. Differentiating between inflammatory and neoplastic lesions deforming the choroidal profile can sometimes be challenging. In addition, scleral disorders can also deform the choroidal profile. Choroidal

Imaging peritoneal blood vessels through optical coherence tomography angiography for laparoscopic surgery.

Laparoscopic surgery presents challenges in identifying blood vessels due to lack of tactile feedback. The image-guided laparoscopic surgical tool (IGLaST) integrated with optical coherence tomography (OCT) has potential for in vivo blood vessel imaging; however, distinguishing vessels from surrounding tissue remains a challenge. In this study, we propose utilizing an inter-A-line intensity differentiation-based OCT angiography (OCTA) to improve visualization of blood vessels. By evaluating a tissue phantom with varying flow speeds, we optimized the system's blood flow imaging capabilities in

Current clinical applications of anterior segment optical coherence tomography angiography: a review.

Optical coherence tomography (OCT) is a revolutionary in vivo imaging technology that presents real-time information on ocular structures. Angiography based on OCT, known as optical coherence tomography angiography (OCTA), is a noninvasive and time-saving technique originally utilized for visualizing retinal vasculature. As devices and built-in systems have evolved, high-resolution images with depth-resolved analysis have assisted ophthalmologists in accurately localizing pathology and monitoring disease progression. With the aforementioned advantages, application of OCTA has extended from the

Early Healing of Spontaneous Coronary Artery Dissection Confirmed by Optical Coherence Tomography.

Our image series show the use of intravascular ultrasound (IVUS) and optical coherence tomography (OCT) in the diag- nosis and treatment of a 52-year-old male who was admitted to our hospital because of inferior ST-segment-elevation myocardial infarction. An emergent coronary angiogram showed the total occlusion at the proximal site of the right coronary artery (RCA). IVUS revealed false lumen and intramural hematoma, as well as intimal tear at the proximal site of RCA, diagnosed as a spontaneous coronary artery dissection (SCAD). A drug-eluting stent was implanted over the intimal tear at the
