The position of the bowel in the pararenal space was examined in relation to the kidney and the psoas muscle in 1203 abdominal computed tomographic (CT) examinations. The ascending colon was found between the lower kidney pole and the psoas muscle in 1.7% and the descending colon in 0.7% of the patients. This variation appeared more frequently in women, young adults, and individuals with less intrabdominal fat. We describe an autopsied specimen, from an infant who died in 1967, in which concordant ventriculoarterial connections coexisted with parallel arterial trunks, usually described as "anatomically corrected malposition." Based on their shape, the extent of the pectinate muscles, and the absence of a coronary sinus, we diagnosed isomeric right atrial appendages. Despite this, the arrangement of the remaining thoracic and abdominal organs, as well as the patterns of venous drainage, was almost completely mirror imaged.

The experience of cholecystectomy conduction using the small traumatizing access in 16 patients with chronic and an acute noncomplicated calculous cholecystitis was generalized. Method on laparotomy conduction preserving the vascular-nervous branches and the abdominal wall muscles in depicted. Favourable postoperative period course and the lack of complications in patients, the shortening of hospital stay was noted. The authors consider the conduction of such laparotomy procedure in surgical treatment of calculous cholecystitis expedient.

Upper cervical (C1-3) inspiratory (UCI) propriospinal neurons project to spinal segments containing respiratory motoneurons, but their functional significance is unknown. Bilateral kainic acid injections into this cell column in 12 decerebrate cats (11 paralyzed and artificially ventilated) had no major effect on phrenic, intercostal, and abdominal nerve discharge or EMG activity during (fictive) respiration, vomiting and coughing. Thus, UCI neurons are unessential for activation of major respiratory muscles during these behaviors.

The European Hernia Society guidelines recommend that such hernias should only be repaired by surgeons with experience of component separation. The vermiform appendix (VA) is known to exhibit a wide range of anatomic variability, with clinical presentation correlating with certain known anatomic positioning. To the best of our knowledge, we describe the second known case of a retro-psoas muscle VA variant and the first known case of appendicitis in such a location. Retroperitoneal access was obtained, and the appendix was freed from the intermuscular recess between the psoas and iliacus. The peritoneal defect was primarily repaired, and the patient was discharged on postoperative day 1 in good condition.

We report the case of a 77-year-old woman with a two-year history of abdominal non rhythmic myoclonus. Neurological examination was normal. Bursts of myoclonic activity were recorded from the rectus abdominis muscle and then from the external oblique muscle after a delay of 40 ms.
