Oil depots are parenteral drug formulations meant for sustained release of lipophilic compounds. Until now, a comprehensive understanding of the mechanism of drug absorption from oil depots is lacking. The aim of this paper was to fill this gap. Gold absorbers based on plasmonic tapered coaxial holes (PTCHs) are demonstrated theoretically and experimentally. An average absorption of over 0.93 is obtained theoretically in a broad wavelength range from 300 nm to 900 nm without polarization sensitivity due to the structural symmetry. OBJECTIVE: Head lice are the most common parasitic infestation in the United States requiring topical treatment with pediculicides. Ovide, the 0.5% malathion formulation used in treatment of head lice requires placement on dry hair for 8-12 h. Malathion, however, is effective at killing lice and nits in 10 min.
