Serum samples obtained from livestock (cattle, chickens, pigs, sheep, goats and water buffaloes) slaughtered at various slaughter houses in Trinidad were screened for agglutinins to three zoonosis causing pathogens. A male patient presented with fever, cytopenia, and hepatosplenomegaly. The patient's Brucella tube agglutination test was positive at titers 1:640. Due to the lack of response to brucellosis treatment, additional tests were performed. Leishmania amastigotes were seen in the second bone marrow biopsy preparations. Leishmania PCR was positive, and visceral leishmaniasis (VL) was diagnosed. Here, we present a case of VL and brucellosis coinfection that presented with B symptoms (fever, night sweats, and weight loss) and cytopenia and was difficult to diagnose.

Double immunodiffusion in gel test was used to determine the antigenic composition of the preparations of membranes isolated from the lysozyme spheroplasts of glanders (strain No. 10230) and melioidosis (strain No. C-141) causative agents. The membranes of these microbes proved to contain antigens of cell walls, lipopolysaccharides and the thermolabile membrane antigen proper. A study of antimembrane sera in the agglutination and immunofluorescence tests demonstrated a heterogeneity of the glanders and melioidosis strains under study by the membrane thermolabile antigen.

In order to determine whether there is an association between mumps orchitis and serum sperm antibodies, we tested patients at the time orchitis was diagnosed (n = 7) and individuals who had had orchitis at least 1 month previously (n = 14). Fifty cases of hepato-renal dysfunction of unknown etiology were studied over a two-year period. Urine samples were examined microscopically and cultured for Leptospira. Serum samples were examined for antibodies against Leptospira by the Macroscopic slide agglutination test (MSAT). A 4-year-old neutered male St. Bernard-mastiff crossbred dog showed clinical signs of lethargy and anorexia after being administered phenobarbital for the treatment of idiosyncratic seizures. A complete blood (cell) count revealed pancytopenia. Auto-agglutination and Coombs tests were negative suggesting that an immunemediated cause was unlikely; therefore, an idiosyncratic reaction to phenobarbital was suspected. Supportive care and control of seizures with zonisamide was initiated and clinical signs improved. Blood values were monitored closely and returned to normal after 3 wk.

Studies on the persistence and levels of antibodies in 280 patients at different intervals following surgery for echinococcosis are described. Post-operative antibody levels were investigated by means of four immunodiagnostic methods, namely, the complement fixation, latex agglutination, indirect haemagglutination, and intradermal tests. OBJECTIVE: We are reporting a case of acquired B phenomenon in a 14 days old pre-term baby presenting with necrotizing enterocolitis (NEC) where it was detected as an ABO discrepancy.
METHOD: The forward and reverse grouping was done using tube technique as well as column agglutination technique (ABD card and LISS Coombs AHG gel cards, Biorad, Switzerland). The direct antiglobulin test (DAT) was also done on gel card. Further work up was done using acidified (0.1 N HCl) anti-B (pH 6-6.5) polyclonal anti-B (from group A donors) for resolution of ABO discrepancy.
