Dermatologists are at risk of occupational exposures to human papilloma virus (HPV); however, the required precautions during each treatment modality of warts are not standardized. A self-administered online survey to investigate awareness and current practice of precautions during treatment of warts among dermatologists in Saudi Arabia was administered. A total of 228 responses were received. Photodynamic therapy is mainly used in dermatology to treat skin tumors, precancerous lesions, and condyloma acuminatum. Due to its excellent tissue selectivity, easy operation and good cosmetic effect, it has been gradually applied to the treatment of various non-neoplastic skin diseases, such as verruca acuminata, acne, rosacea, chronic skin ulcer, fungal diseases, keloid, and so on. We report here on a case of condyloma acuminatum in the neourethra after urethroplasty for hypospadias. A 37-year-old male visited an other clinic with the chief complaint of a meatal tumor. Human papillomavirus is one of the most frequent sexually transmitted diseases; more than three quarters of sexually active population are infected during their lifetime. Most of papillomavirus infections clear spontaneously, however persistent high-risk human papillomavirus 16 and 18 are responsible for over 70% of all cases of cervical cancer and related to a major part of cancers in the vulva, vagina, penis, anal region, and oropharynx. It is estimated that approximately 5.2% of all cancers are associated with oncogenic human papillomavirus infection.

The primary goal of treatment for external genital warts (EGWs) is to eradicate visible lesions and address symptoms that may accompany them, but it does not address the underlying virus. Left untreated, warts may grow, remain the same, or spontaneously regress as a result of being cleared by the immune system. Genital warts are the most prevalent form of viral genital mucosal lesions. In pregnancy they may proliferate and become easily irritated due to the increased vascularity and altered immunity. This case highlights the importance of a multidisciplinary approach and exact planning to ensure good outcome in the management of genital warts in pregnancy.

This is a personal account of a genitourinary medicine (GUM) physician deployed in the field hospital during the Iraq conflict in Basra. Historically sexually transmitted infections (STIs) have posed major threats to military operations as they can have significant impact on the fighting capacity of the soldiers. The GUM department was one of the busiest departments in the field hospital. Most of the STIs seen among the soldiers were acquired in the UK prior to deployment and while away on rest and recuperation leave. The most common infection seen was genital warts.

Genital warts are a clinical manifestation of HPV types 6 and 11, and are estimated to affect 1% of sexually active adults aged between 15 and 49. HPV leading to a broad spectrum of human diseases, ranging from benign warts to malignant neoplasms, depending on the location of the lesion, the immune status of the patient and the type of HPV. Current therapies for human papillomavirus-associated disease are based on the excision or ablation of involved tissue and are associated with a high frequency of recurrent disease, discomfort and costs.
