Treatment of inflammatory and proliferation dermatoses can now be accomplished with pharmacologic agents which inhibit production of mediators or their actions. The immune system can be stimulated by thymosin, imidazo drugs, BCG, corynebacterium parvum and idoxyuridine. Immune complex diseases may be treated with corticosteroids, clofazimine, sulfonamides, antimalarial drugs, and nicotinic acid. Low dose, safe immunosuppressive therapy can successfully control scleromyxedema, guttate parapsoriasis, histiocytosis X, Kaposi's sarcoma, and Sézary syndrome.

We present a case of total occlusion of the superior vena cava (SVC) with extensive thrombosis of the adjacent large veins secondary to multiple abandoned pacemaker leads with a superimposed chronic lead infection by Corynebacterium jeikeium. A surgical lead extraction was performed with an extensive en-bloc resection of the SVC together with the right subclavian vein and the right innomate vein. No venous reconstruction was required because of an unobstructed runoff via a well-developed azygos system.

In this investigation lymphocytes sensitized with Corynebacterium diphtheriae antigens obtained from carriers and convalescents were used. The new diphtheria bacterial vaccine Codivac, in contrast to other comparable preparations (diphtheria toxoid, staphylococcal toxoid, staphylococcal vaccine, levamisole), was found to produce a more direct effect by modulating the levels of T-lymphocytes, depending on their initial levels in the patient. Codivac, together with other preparations, can be used for the study of the problems of immunostimulation and immunocorrective therapy.

624 Corynebacterium diphtheriae strains, newly isolated from patients and carriers, were studied with the use of the methods of gel immunodiffusion (Elek's test) and polymerase chain reaction (PCR). In the evaluation of 388 C. diptheriae strains, found to be toxigenic in PCR, the results of Elek's test coincided with those of PCR on 98% of cases.
