Fungus formation in the urinary tract mainly occurs in immunosuppressed patients, and is a rare and dangerous complication of candiduria that is commonly misdiagnosed. We report a case of intravesical mycetoma associated with hydronephrosis, initially diagnosed as enterovesical fistula. Cystoscopy revealed spongy material within the urinary bladder, and histopathological examination showed Mycetoma of Candida species. The urine culture showed Candida tropicalis. Endoscopic removal and antifungal therapy with fluconazole was initiated, and no complications occurred during follow-up.

The stone inside the Allium bulbar urethral stent for treatment of urethral stenosis is an exceedingly rare disease. Herein, we report a case of the stone inside the Allium bulbar urethral stent(BUS) for treating urethral stricture in a 48-year-old Chinese male patient. The patient underwent a cystoscopy and URS for the stone inside BUS. The patient had only a symptom of urodynia. Urination of the patient is unobstructed after removing BUS and the urethral stricture of the patient was cured.

A 29-year-old primigravida was admitted to the urology ward with acute urinary retention. The patient underwent cystoscopy, MRI (magnetic resonance imaging), and tissue biopsy, which consequently led to the diagnosis of bladder neck leiomyoma that obstructed urine outflow. Subsequent to a cesarean section, a successful transurethral resection was performed. Here the diagnostic complexity in the pregnant patient, clinical course, and outcome are described. One year after successful treatment both mother and daughter are in good condition.

A 59-year-old woman with complaints of pollakisuria and dysuria, was referred to our hospital. Magnetic resonance imageing (MRI) revealed a tumor, about 59 mm in diameter. Cystoscopy showed a submucosal tumor covered with a normal mucosa. Histological diagnosis was leiomyoma of the urinary bladder by transurethral biopsy. So we performed complete resection of the tumor. To our knowledge, 30 cases of leiomyoma of the urinary bladder by transurethral resection have been reported in the Japanese literature.

Vesical endometriosis accounts for approximately 1% of all discovered cases of endometriosis. We report the first case of a 36-year-old woman with pregnancy-associated decidual changes within bladder endometriosis that are clinically presented as a rapidly growing bladder tumor. Cystoscopy, with subsequent cold cup biopsy and fulguration, revealed a solitary, red-brown, nodular lesion, which turned to be a decidualized endometriosis of the urinary bladder. Delivery and postdelivery follow-up was uneventful and no recurrence was diagnosed.

Sensory bladder disorders include disorders involving abnormal sensations resulting from many diseases of the urinary bladder. In a proportion of patients no cause can be found and if pain or pelvic pressure is a part of the symptomatology, they are labelled as having painful bladder syndrome (PBS). In a subgroup of these patients abnormal findings can be demonstrated at cystoscopy and/or by histological examination of bladder biopsies. These patients are categorised as having interstitial cystitis (IC). This paper looks into the differential diagnosis, evaluation and treatment of patients wit…

A 29-year-old woman presented with a 3-month history of multiple purulent discharging nodules involving her lower abdomen, vulva, and left thigh. Physical examination also disclosed vaginal nodules and a left pelvic mass. Cystoscopy revealed multiple mucosal nodules and a perforation of the left vesical wall that appeared to communicate with the pelvic mass. Biopsies of the vesical and vulvar nodules revealed malakoplakia. Surgery and antibiotic therapy resulted in regression of all the lesions.

OBJECTIVE: To emphasize that urological symptoms and signs can be the presenting features of Crohn's disease.
METHODS: A case of enterovesical fistula in a patient with Crohn's disease is described. The patient presented with hematuria and mild voiding symptoms, but there were no GI or other symptoms. The clinical aspects, diagnostic methods (ultrasound, cystoscopy, rectosigmoidoscopy) and treatment are discussed.
RESULTS/CONCLUSIONS: Although Crohn's disease is rare, it should be considered when making the differential diagnosis in patients who present with voiding symptoms and hematuria.

This report concerns a patient with bilateral hydronephrosis due to a tight external condom catheter retention strap. Urodynamics with fluoroscopy and cystoscopy failed to demonstrate bladder outlet obstruction, urethral stricture, uretero-vesicle junction abnormality, or other explanations for the bilateral hydronephrosis. The hydronephrosis resolved when the external condom catheter retention strap was eliminated. The authors emphasize the importance of patient education to prevent this problem and encourage alertness by clinicians to assess appropriateness of external condom catheter use.

Two types of non-functioning supernumerary kidney pelvis are defined by analyzing 12 cases discovered in adult life. Those of congenital origin from glomerular aplasia, sometimes associated with a ureterocele or an ectopic anastomosis, and those due to an acquired lesion such as lithiasis, vesico-ureteral reflux, or secondary infection of a pocket of fluid. Radiological diagnosis is made by IVU with descending cystography and films taken during micturition. Cystoscopy and possibly retrograde ureteropyelography are essential in order to confirm the diagnosis.

A 54-year-old woman, presenting with chyluria and progressive dyspnea, is reported. Necropsy revealed co-existent lymphangiomyomatosis and pneumoconiosis in the lungs. Retroperitoneal lymphangiomyomas surrounded the distal ureters, and cystoscopy revealed pyelolymphatic backflow into renal lymphatic sinuses. The finding of chyluria with atypical smooth muscle hyperplasia within the ureters is extremely rare. Previously reported cases of lymphangiomyomatosis are discussed and compared with our own. Electron micrographs of involved lymph nodes are presented and the findings briefly evaluated.

Extramedullary and nonlymphoid organ involvement in chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) is exceedingly rare, with only a few cases of bladder infiltration reported to date. Here, we present a case of a 71-year-old man with advanced-stage CLL who presented with gross hematuria initially thought to be secondary to a urinary tract infection. However, a cystoscopy with biopsy confirmed the diagnosis of extramedullary CLL with bladder involvement. The patient was started on venetoclax with improvement in symptoms and no recurrence of hematuria.

In aggressive cases, endometriosis can perturb the urogenital tract, in particular the ureter, which can potentially result in ureteral compression or stenosis. Even though this is rare, consequences are dramatic, such as hydronephrosis or organ failure. The present standard intervention comprises the resection of affected tissues and endometriosis foci combined with adjuvant hormonal therapy. When the ureter does not recover, ureteral reimplantation is required. The present case describes the successful laparoscopic approach of the reimplantation of the ureter with simultaneous cystoscopy.

We report a rare case of isolated penile fracture in a prepubescent male caused by an accidental fall. The patient presented with swelling and ecchymosis on the base of the penis and along the penile shaft. A flexible cystoscopy was performed, which did not reveal any concomitant urethral injury. The penis was degloved and the corporal tear was closed with absorbable suture. Due to the location of the injury, ventral mobilization of the urethra was required. The pathophysiology of penile fracture as well as the diagnosis and management of this rare injury are discussed in this report.

A 70-year-old man with previous history of TUR-BT presented positive urinary cytology at one year follow-up. Cystoscopy with bladder mapping was negative, and IVP revealed multiple outpouchings of the right upper ureter without hydronephrosis. Ureteroscopy failed because of an underlying stricture. Surgical excision of the strictured segment and of 2.5 cm of cranial ureter was performed. Histopathology demonstrated focal hyperplasia of the urothelium with outpouchings involving only the mucosa, compatible with the diagnosis of pseudodiverticula.

A patient who had a small bowel mesentery perforation following insertion of a suprapubic catheter (SPC) is described. He had no bowel complaints immediately following the procedure, but presented 10 weeks later with insidious onset bowel obstruction due to the kink caused by the catheter. This complication occurred despite cystoscopy control and adequate bladder distension prior to the procedure. This isolated case illustrates the fact that regardless of the ease and frequency of SPC insertion, complications do occur.
