GDM-BC: Non-invasive body composition dataset for intelligent prediction of Gestational Diabetes Mellitus.

Gestational Diabetes Mellitus (GDM) refers to any degree of impaired glucose tolerance with onset or first recognition during pregnancy. As a high-prevalence disease, GDM damages the health of both pregnant women and fetuses in the short and long term. Accurate and cost-effective recognition of GDM is quite crucial to reduce the risk and economic pressure of this disease. However, existing datasets for the prediction of GDM primarily focus on clinical and biochemical parameters, including a mass of invasive indexes. These variables are hard to obtain and do not always perform well in the predi

Systematic method for classifying multiple congenital anomaly cases in electronic health records.

PURPOSE: Congenital anomalies (CAs) affect approximately 3% of live births and are the leading cause of infant morbidity and mortality. Many individuals have multiple CAs (MCA), a constellation of 2 or more unrelated CAs; yet, there is no consensus on how to systematically identify these individuals in electronic health records (EHRs). We developed a scalable method to characterize MCA in the EHR, allowing for the dramatic improvement of our understanding of the genetic and epidemiologic underpinnings of MCA. METHODS: From the Vanderbilt University Medical Center's anonymized EHR database, we

EndoCompass Project: Research Roadmap for Growth Disorders.

BACKGROUND: Endocrine science remains underrepresented in European Union research programs despite the fundamental role of hormone health in human well-being. Analysis of the CORDIS database reveals a persistent gap between the societal impact of endocrine disorders and their research prioritization. At the national funding level, endocrine societies report limited or little attention of national research funding toward endocrinology. The EndoCompass project - a joint initiative between the European Society of Endocrinology and the European Society of Pediatric Endocrinology - aimed to identif

Attenuation of orthodontically induced inflammatory root resorption by using low-intensity pulsed ultrasound as a therapeutic modality- a systematic review.

Ultrasound is an effective tool for both diagnostic and therapeutic applications. As an imaging tool, ultrasound has mostly been used for real-time noninvasive diagnostic imaging. As ultrasound propagates through a material, a reflected radio-frequency (RF) signal is generated when encountering a mismatch in acoustic impedance. While traditionally recognized for its diagnostic imaging capabilities, the application of ultrasound has broadened to encompass therapeutic interventions, most notably in the form of Low-Intensity Pulsed Ultrasound (LIPUS). Low-Intensity Pulsed Ultrasound (LIPUS) is a

Validation of diagnosis algorithms for ankylosing spondylitis in claim-based database.

BACKGROUND: Claims-based algorithms using International Classification of Diseases (ICD) codes have become a common approach for researchers to define ankylosing spondylitis (AS) in studies. To address potential misclassification bias caused by the claim-based algorithms, we conducted the current study to validate whether these algorithms of medical claims could accurately represent AS diagnoses. METHODS: Patients diagnosed with AS based on ICD codes were retrieved from the electronic medical records database at a Taiwanese medical center (Chung Shan University Hospital, Taiwan). After random

Bioinformatics-based analysis of the roles of sex hormone receptors in endometriosis development.

Endometriosis is a hormone-dependent disease in women of reproductive age and seriously affects women's health. To analyze the involvement of sex hormone receptors in endometriosis development, we performed bioinformatics analysis using four datasets derived from the Gene Expression Omnibus (GEO) database, which may help us understand the mechanisms by which the sex hormones act in vivo in endometriosis patients. The enrichment analysis and protein-protein interaction (PPI) analysis of the differentially expressed genes (DEGs) revealed that there are different key genes and pathways involved i
