Binding characteristics and physicochemical basis of C-minus odorant-binding protein 8 in western flower thrips, Frankliniella occidentalis, with various host vegetable volatiles.

Western flower thrips (WFT), Frankliniella occidentalis (Pergande) (Thysanoptera: Thripidae), is a globally invasive polyphagous pest that relies on olfaction to sense host plants. Odorant-binding proteins (OBPs) in insect sensillar lymph mediate interactions with plant volatiles. However, the physicochemical mechanisms by which OBPs in F. occidentalis bind to host-plant volatiles, the key amino acid residues involved in these interactions and the structural characteristics of the preferred ligands remain unclear. Here, we cloned a novel OBP, FoccOBP8, which belongs to the C-minus OBP subfamil

In situ fabrication of oxygen-vacancy-rich flower-like cerium-lanthanum oxide/HZSM-5 composites from waste polishing powder for dichloromethane degradation.

This study addresses the challenges in recycling rare earth polishing powder waste (REPPWs)-such as harsh leaching conditions, poor morphology control, and low value-added output-by proposing a synergistic "leaching-morphology control-zeolite loading" strategy. This approach enabled the successfully synthesize of flower-like CeOvLa/HZSM-5 composite catalyst using polishing powder as the primary raw material. This strategy involves three key elements: 1) co-leaching Ce3+/La3+ with a H2SO4-ascorbic acid system, 2) precisely constructing CeOvLa with abundant oxygen vacancies (Ovs) via controlled

Construction of ternary methoxy hydroxide M(OH)(OCH3) (M = Co, Cu, Mn) with a flower-like structure for highly efficient electrocatalytic oxygen evolution.

Developing non-precious metal electrocatalysts for the oxygen evolution reaction (OER) in alkaline electrolytes is crucial to address the issue of slow OER kinetics, which hinders water splitting efficiency. A flower-like ternary methoxy hydroxide M(OH)(OCH3) (M = Co, Cu, Mn) structure composed of stacked nanosheets was successfully synthesized in situ on Fe foam (FF) via a one-step hydrothermal method. The as-prepared M(OH)(OCH3) (M = Co, Cu, Mn) catalyst requires overpotentials of only 215 mV and 360 mV to deliver current densities of 20 mA cm-2 and 100 mA cm-2, respectively. The structural

Camellia nitidissima Flower Extract Alleviates Dermal Papilla Cell Dysfunction by Regulating 11β-HSD1 and the TGF-β2/Smad and Wnt/β-Catenin Pathways.

Psychological stress activates the local hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA)-like axis in hair follicles, leading to cortisol overproduction and dysfunction of dermal papilla cells (DPCs). However, effective natural ingredients targeting this mechanism remain scarce. To investigate whether Camellia nitidissima flower extract (CNF) alleviates stress-induced DPC dysfunction by inhibiting 11β-Hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase type 1(11β-HSD1) and modulating the downstream signaling pathways. The phytochemical composition of CNF was characterized using HPLC-DAD. An in vitro stress-induced injury model

AuPt-loaded Fe-N-C flower-like nanocascade reactor with self-supplied reaction substrates and multiple enzyme activities for the study of hypoxic tumors.

When nano-enzymes are used in tumor therapy research, they usually exhibit only a single enzyme activity, which limits their therapeutic effect in hypoxic tumors. This paper designs a hyaluronic acid (HA)-modified Au-Pt-Fe trimetallic flower-like nanomaterial for tumor cascade catalysis integrated with low-temperature photothermal therapy. GOx activity exhibited by AuPt nanoparticles converts glucose in tumor cells into gluconic acid and H2O2. This process not only deprives tumor cells of their energy source but also produces H2O2. Iron single-atom nanomaterials can exhibit excellent CAT and P

A world review of reported myiases caused by flower flies (Diptera: Syrphidae), including the first case of human myiasis from Palpada scutellaris (Fabricius, 1805).

Rat-tailed larvae of the syrphid species Palpada scutellaris (Fabricius, 1805) are documented causing an enteric human myiasis in Costa Rica. This is the first time that the genus Palpada is recorded as a human myiasis agent. We report a 68-year-old woman with intestinal pain and bloody diarrhea with several live Palpada larvae present in the stool. Using molecular techniques (DNA barcodes) and both electronic and optical microscopy to study the external morphology, the preimaginal stages of the fly were unambiguously identified. An identification key to all syrphid genera actually known as ag
