Lower extremity nerve injuries accompanying bone fractures and joint dislocations lead to serious disturbances at the lower limbs and caused significant prolongation of the treatment time. Clinical material consisted of 73 patients treated surgically with lower extremity nerve injuries due to bone fractures and joint dislocation. Based on this material we analysed the most frequent localisations of the nerves lesions and the mechanism of injury. The indications to surgical treatment were also described.

BACKGROUND: The tibial pilon fracture is a relatively uncommon but a most difficult fracture to manage. In a prospective population-based cohort study, we assessed whether bone mineral density (BMD) measurements of perimenopausal women and other risk factors for osteoporosis are predictive of subsequent fracture. Women aged 47-51 years chosen randomly from a population register who underwent a bone density measurement 2 years previously were followed up by questionnaire to assess the 2-year incidence of any self-reported fractures. Skating on wheels-in-line skates (roller blading) is an increasingly popular activity. We present two cases of temporal bone fractures from roller blading falls, and review the literature on temporal bone fractures resulting from recreational activities. Neglected femoral neck fractures are frequently complicated with nonunion and avascular necrosis of the femoral head. The treatment is especially difficult in young adults because arthroplasty is not indicated. Five cases of neglected femoral neck fractures in young patients were treated by open reduction and internal fixation with pins. Two patients of unusual cough related stress fractures of the ribs are presented. Both patients complained of cough and chest pain with respiratory infection, and the initial chest radiographs showed only an infiltrative shadow due to bronchopneumonia in the lung field, however, failed to reveal any definite osseous abnormality of the ribs.
