BACKGROUND: Although not rare, vascular lesions occurring in the lips sometimes poses a difficult in properly diagnosing and handling them. In this study, vascular lesions occurring in the lips were retrieved from an Oral Pathology Service.
METHODS: Among 5600 biopsies, 131 cases were found. The following diagnoses were attributed: caliber-persistent artery, infantile hemangioma, vascular malformation, venous lake, thrombus, papillary endothelial hyperplasia and pyogenic granuloma. Clinical data were obtained from patients' records.

OBJECTIVE: To characterize referrals to a vascular anomalies center to determine which lesions should be treated by specialists.
STUDY DESIGN: Patients sent to our center between 1999 and 2010 were reviewed. Type of anomaly, anatomical location, sex, accuracy of referral diagnosis, and the geographic origin of the referred patient were analyzed.

Herein we report our experience with a simple technique for reducing the rate of silicone tube extrusion after nasolacrimal duct (NLD) intubation for congenital NLD obstruction. Medical records of children older than 2 years, with or without history of failed probing, who had undergone NLD intubation with a Crawford silicone tube over a period of 4 years were reviewed. Intraluminal masses of the azygos vein are of rare occurrence. The differential diagnosis includes bland thrombus, tumor thrombus, epithelioid hemangioendothelioma, and leiomyosarcoma. To this list, the authors add an uncommon case of intravenous lobular capillary hemangioma, also known as intravenous pyogenic granuloma, of the azygos vein, inducing a recurrent large right pleural effusion. CT, MR, and PET/CT features of this lesion are presented.

A 59-year-old woman presented with a tumor of the gums located in the second quadrant for the past 6 weeks. The histopathological findings are presented and the most likely differential diagnoses are commented (pyogenic granuloma, squamous cell carcinoma and gingival metastases), along with the importance of the radiological features. The definitive diagnosis requires concordance among the clinical, radiological and histopathological characteristics of the lesion.

We report a 41-year-old woman presented with a 4-year history of an exuberant, erythematous tumor, with necrotic appearance of the right distal toe. The histopathology examination showed a nodular-ulcerative melanoma, with bone infiltration. Widespread metastases including the right ovary, peritoneum, and right breast were present. The patient was misdiagnosed for almost 4 years as having onychomycosis, ingrown nail and pyogenic granuloma.

A 13-year-old female patient with Noonan's syndrome, intra-oral periodontitis, and associated periodontal lesions is presented in this case report. The patient suffered early onset severe molar pattern periodontitis and recurrent intra-oral inflammatory lesions, pyogenic granuloma, and plasmacytosis, which were excised and controlled using a strict oral hygiene protocol based on long-term use of chlorhexidine-based products as auxiliary aid to regular home care and brushing.

Chronic cough is a common complaint in the pediatric population and can have many different etiologies. We present a rare case of a tracheal lobular capillary hemangioma (LCH), also known as pyogenic granuloma, causing chronic cough in a child. In this case, the tracheal LCH was managed successfully with laser ablation. A review of the literature reveals only 2 other reported pediatric cases of tracheal LCH. Metastases to the gingiva are uncommon. They can be a diagnostic challenge clinically because of their rarity and tendency to mimic benign lesions. We present the case of an undifferentiated small cell lung carcinoma in a 76-year-old man whose left lower gum showed a lesion similar to pyogenic granuloma. Biopsy confirmed gingival metastasis of lung cancer. We make a differential diagnosis of proliferative lesions and metastatic tumors.

Common benign lesions include hemagniomas and congenital cysts, pyogenic granuloma, aphthous ulcer, fibromas and changes produced by drugs. Many of these are self-limited and of little consequence. The point of the careful examination is the early detection of oral cancer. Only one patient in three with oral cavity cancer is cured. Premalignant and early asymptomatic lesions must be detected. Recognize the high-risk patient and examine the oral cavity meticulously.

175 'epulides' were studied clinically and histologically. The lesions were histologically reclassified into three groups: granulomatous, fibromatous and giant cell lesions. The granulomatous group was four times and the giant cell group 1.5 times more frequent in females.
