RATIONALE: Intrauterine device (IUD) is commonly used in China. Its complications include uterine perforation, IUD ectopic migration, etc. However, a migrated IUD rarely leads to renal failure.
PATIENT CONCERNS: IUD insertion in the patient was followed by unexplained pain in the left renal area, without bladder irritation or dysuresia.
DIAGNOSES: Hydronephrosis, renal failure, migrated IUD.
INTERVENTIONS: The patient underwent laparoscopic and retroperitoneoscopic left nephrectomy, partial ureterectomy, and migrated IUD extraction.

We report a case of bilateral hydronephrosis caused by pseudolymphoma of bilateral renal pelves. A 52-year-old woman with Sjogren's syndrome and bronchial asthma was found to have bilateral hydronephrosis. Abdominal plain computerized tomography showed an irregular thickening of the bilateral renal pelves with moderate hydronephrosis. We report a case of complete uterine prolapse that resulted in bilateral hydroureter, hydronephrosis, and renal dysfunction. The nonoperative reduction of the prolapse with a vaginal pessary reversed the obstructive uropathy and ameliorated renal function. The lower urinary tract should be imaged in patients with complete uterine prolapse. If present, obstructive uropathy should be relieved by the reduction of the prolapse before irreversible renal damage occurs.

Severe hydronephrosis and hydroureter associated with ectopic ureters were diagnosed in 2 dogs. Surgical transplantation of the ectopic ureters into the urinary bladder resulted in urinary continence in both dogs. The smooth-muscle cells of narrow segment in the ureter with congenital hydronephrosis in 5 cases were studied by transmission electron microscope. The result showed that the smooth-muscle cells of the narrow segment lack of myofilaments, dense body and dense patch in cells membrane. The above mentioned structures are functional deficient basis of the smooth-muscle cells in the ureter. Its deficiency results in the poor peristalsis function of the narrow segment of the ureter in congenital hydronephrosis.
